The true Westron name of Frodo Baggins. Maura was not a common name in the Shire and its meaning had long been forgotten.

By the end of the TA there was no word Maur in Westron, but in old Rohirric there was an adjective Maur= 'wise, experienced', used mostly in verse or higher styles of speech. Therefore Tolkien rendered Maura by Frodo, a Germanic name containing the element Fród, meaning 'wise by experience' in Old English. Baggins is the anglicized form of Labingi (Labin = 'bag').
