"Home of the Grey Ones". The name given by the Grey-elves of Beleriand to those who dwelled in that region of the north which was afterwards named after them.

Mithrim was the south-easternmost part of the land of Hithlum, bordered on the south, east, and west by mountain ranges - the Ered Wethrin and the Ered Mithrim. It was protected from the north by the great Lake of Mithrim.

Mithrim was the most ancient of the High-elven realms in Exile, as it was there that the Noldor had their first encounter with the Grey-elves, and there that they made their first encampment in Middle-earth. It was there that their first battle was fought against Morgoth, and there that Fëanor was slain.

Sometime after that battle, Fingolfin arrived in Middle-earth and camped beside the Lake. He later took those lands as his Realm. Fingon later made Mithrim the centre of the Noldorin cause.

After the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the land was lost to the Easterlings, and never regained.
