A name given to himself by Túrin after he left Doriath feeling himself an outlaw. The word Neithan means The Wronged.

Long had Túrin been a companion in arms to Beleg Cúthalion while they battled on the marches of Doriath. When he returned, a high counselor to King Thingol named Saeros criticized him for being unkempt and his garments so worn. Saeros had long begrudged Túrin for the favor laid upon him by the King of Doriath and so he was looking to insult Túrin and his folk. Túrin was indeed angered and threw a drinking-vessel at Saeros and injured him.

The next day, seeking revenge, Saeros tried to waylay Túrin as he left Menegroth to return to the marches. Túrin overcame him and forced Saeros to run naked through the woods. Saeros was afraid and in his fear he fell into a chasm and died.

There were some who had seen all that had happened and one of them, Mablung tried to convince Túrin to return to Menegroth to abide the judgement of the King, but Turin feared being held captive so he refused.

Túrin then joined himself to a band of houseless and desperate men and with them he turned against any who came in their path, be they Elves, Men or Orcs.

Feeling himself wronged, he took the name of Neithan and he became the Captain of those wild men and even when Beleg sought him out and told him of the pardon of King Thingol for any wrongdoing, Túrin would not return to Doriath.
