The North-South Road linked Arnor and Gondor during the Second Age. The North Road ran from Fornost through Bree (where it crossed the Great East Road and the Shire, and then crossing the South Downs to Tharbad. From there, the road travelled down through Gondor.

By the time of the War of the Ring, much of the road had fallen into disrepair, with the only parts navigable being around Bree, where the road was known as the Greenway.
