His name meant 'Horn Blower', and he was also called called Araw by the Sindar, Aldaron ('Lord of the Forests'), Tauron, and Béma by Men. He had a sister, Nessa, and a spouse named Vána, the Ever-young.

He was the Vala who came last to Valinor and rode through the woods of Middle-earth on his horse Nahar. He was the Huntsman of the Valar, and watched over all birds and beasts. The sound of his horn, Valaróma, was hated by the servants of Darkness.

He was the first to discover that the elves had awoken, and he led the Eldar to Valinor.
