Rómendacil I (also known as Tarostar) was the son of Ostoher and the eighth King of Gondor.

During his father's last years of reign, Tarostar drove off the first Easterling invasion in Gondor, which had begun in TA 490. After ten years of war with the wild men of the East, he defeated them in TA 500 and to celebrate his triumph he took the name Rómendacil, meaning 'East-victor'. But later during his reign the Easterlings attacked Gondor once more. Rómendacil was slain in battle in TA 541, and the war against the Eastern enemies was continued by his son Turambar of Gondor.

Rómendacil I ruled Gondor for 49 years, from TA 492-541, and was succeeded by his heir Turambar of Gondor.
