The Scroll of Kings was where each of the names of the Kings of Númenor was written.
Their names were transcribed in the language of the High-Elves, Quenya, at first because it was considered the most fair of all of the languages. But in later days, when the Kings of Númenor began to turn away from the Eldar and the Valar, they continued to write their names upon the Scrolls in Quenya out of fear. They were afraid that if they went against this tradition that great evil would befall them.
