Ancalimon was the son of Tar-Atanamir. Upon taking the sceptre he became the fourteenth of the Kings of Númenor.

During the reign of Ancalimon the rift between the people who followed the king, the King's Men, and those who still kept their friendship with the Eldar, the Faithful, grew.

Many of the King's Men began to forsake the tongues of the Elves entirely and would no longer teach them to their children.

The names of the Kings were still given in Quenya though for they feared to go utterly against his ancient custom for fear that if they did they would have ill-fortune.

Tar-Ancalimon ruled for 165 years and was succeeded by his son Tar-Telemmaitë in SA 2386.
