Tharbad was a town on the borders of Enedwaith and southern Eriador, founded by Númenorean mariners during the later Second Age. It stood on both sides of the River Greyflood (River Gwathló-Mitheithel), on the North-South Road, with a bridge spanning the river.

The town of Tharbad was destroyed and deserted in the year TA 2912, when the great floods that followed the Fell Winter ravaged the area, including Enedwaith and Minhiriath.

At the time of the War of the Ring, Tharbad remained deserted, and it was there that Boromir said, while in Lothlórien, he had lost his horse.
