Ulbar was a man of Númenor, who lived in Emerië with his wife and son, Îbal.

Ulbar was a shepherd in the service of Hallatan but was later drawn to the great ships of the Guild of Venturers led by the man who would become Tar-Aldarion.

Together with the other seafarers, Ulbar sailed with Aldarion to Middle-earth aboard his great ship, Hirilondë.

After many years on the sea, the Guild of Venturers returned to Númenor and Aldarion gifted a ring set with a scarlet jewel to Ulbar's wife. This ring was itself a gift from Gil-galad of Lindon.
