The Realms are the only part of the site that require a certain degree of active participation from their members, but otherwise there are no deadlines or other requirements.

One way of participating on CoE is to post in the forum threads that interest you. Some of the forums are busier than others, but you certainly don’t need to be here all the time. The discussions remain open for as long as someone has something to say on the topic.

Another way is to help the site by submitting articles, gallery pictures etc to the various sections. You can find some ideas here.
