Wow, translating all these names must have been hard work for sure... And now I have a rough translation of my first name into OE. How cool is that? Thanks a lot!

My last name must come from Old English; the translation, Lytel, is almost identical to my name, Lytle.

Thank you very much for the translations!

Well, you've got several choices for that meaning, so you can pick whichever you think sounds best.

pure, innocent: Bilewit, Hlútor

pure, unblemished: Unwemme

Okay, two new meanings for you:

worthy of love: Sibbwyrðlic

---

bond: Bend, Clomm

Naneth, I don't think the PMs like me at the moment, one of them isn't showing up in the "sent" list but from the number of "Re"s in the one that is there it looks like it's the first one that you replied to me. Which Instant Messenger were you talking about?

Tiffany: (image of God) Gesihðgod

Randall: well, this one's actually a Rohirric name anyway, or what you get from fifteen hundred years of lazy English-speakers shortening it. It was originally Randwulf.

Thank you for the quick response!! May I ask, what resources are you using to translate these and how are you studying OE? I am very interested in the language is all, I'm not criticizing you or anything, and am looking for reliable resources to use. You can PM me if you like.

Miriam: (bitter) Áfor

For everyone who's interested, the good news is the Rohirric names database is now up! The bad news is that it's empty until I learn how to use it No fear, though, that shouldn't be too long, and then you can make name requests the same way as for the elvish name databases.

How about Sandra - which is short for Alexandria, meaning "Helper of Mankind" ... or rather, as I like to say ... Helper of Humanity and All Living Creatures/Plants, so as to include both genders and all living beings .

Thanks!

Goldsand, nice to see you well again. Sadly, translating your preferred name definition (which is better than the real thing in my opinion) might make for a rather cumbersome name, so I settled for:

Alexandria: (helper of mankind) Gumabót

---

For anyone who's interested in looking into learning OE, I'd suggest this site which is where the pronunciation guide is based.

Hey thanks Faramirs_first_kiss .

Apologies, I should have mentioned that I didn't expect a translation for my preferred definition .

Hmm ... Gumabót eh? Sort of reminds me of the name (though I can't remember exactly the name), of some action figure toys that were popular a few years ago ... LOL .

Hey Narcalilmon, if you scroll up a bit on page three you will find Randall already "translated" (it's actually already an Old English name worn down by hundreds of years of use by less skillful English speakers) as Randwulf. Just thought I'd let you know so Faramir's_first_kiss can have more time for the database!!! WOOHOO!!!!! Which is great so far by the way!!

Hello everybody,

if it isn't known already, we've now opened the Rohirric Names Finder, so please look there to see if your name's been translated to Rohirric, and if it isn't, feel free to click the 'Request a Name Addition' near the top of the screen.
