i don't think anyone could write truly bad poetry.

I agree! And great poems, both of you.

In the spirit of sharing, here's mine. They're both about a guy that...well I can't say anything, one of my friends might be reading

The light plays softly in my eyes
yet where you are, a darkness lies
you crushed my dreams, I named you foe
you are my friend, and you should know
my broken heart is yours to hold
for in the light the dark seems bold

Deception and Confusion
Your smile is deceiving
your words just can't be true
you know that I am leaving
what does that mean to you?
I know I acted insincere
I never seemed to care
I had to make myself appear
that I didn't belong there
but am I just a lonely soul
you came across one day?
Can't you feel my heart's pull
as I tear it's hold away?

These are all great poems!! I espescially like Nessa_Telemnar_of_Doriath's Verse. I'd like to add two of mine, but before I do I'd like to say that the first one voices my political beliefs and I don't want to insight a riot, so please don't get angry about it, the second stanza has been very controversial. However I could not change it, it was the only way the poem sounded right. I'm not mocking anyone who's loved ones have been killed, or harmed in Iraq. The second one was written about the day to day bustle of life after summer is over. The first has no title.

We're fighting Iraq
why could't we wait,
we're fighting the world
when all it really is is hate,

we're waiting for those away
to come back home,
but when they don't
we just want to be alone,

if we're fighting for peace
why have we killed so many,
innocent lives have been taken
our heavenly father forsaken

Ambient Chaos

so impetuous
this ominous
wish we make
in somnolence

no time to worry
no time to think
let alone wonder
or wish

so serene
was life before this
now one can only dream
of sincere silence

Tell me what you think, constructive criticism is welcomed!
I hope to post more soon!

Excellent again!

One thing, though: some of the poems have themes that we are trying to avoid in the forums, like the war. I'm not going to remove the poems, because we're talking about writing fiction in here and you can't apply the same rules to that than a political debate.

However, I'd like to remind you, that an actual discussion about your political views is forbidden at CoE (because of the trouble we've had in the past: figts, rudeness, etc.) so if you wish to critisize a poem, don't go into that area!

Also, I'd like to ask you not to write about self-harm/suicide. Children visit this site, so it's an area we wish to avoid.

/end Auntie Lolly's lecture.

Anyways, I loved those poems again!

Ok,a nice one for you...

The Midsommer Ball

And there she frolicked upon the grass,
Her hair golden and flowing,
Her delicate wings,coloured like stained-glass,
I knew not,where she was going.

I watched her with intruigment,
As she sang her merry song,
The words were riddled with enchantment,
Sang in the faery tongue.

It seemed as though for hours,
I had watched her,sing and prance,
Her footprints turned to flowers,
I too wanted to dance.

So I left my secret hiding,
Behind the cherry tree,
But,off on her wings she went gliding,
Away from the sight of me.

I turned and was no longer merry,
I too wanted to fly,
To join the frolicking faery,
In The Kingdoms in the Sky.

For days after I stared,
At the clouds,above,so high,
I wonder if she cared,
That Midsommer was almost nigh.

That is the time that the Queen,
Of all faeries,great and small,
Decends on a shining sunbeam,
And holds the Midsommer Ball.

There a faery feast is held,
Full of merriment and cheer,
And I was intent,compelled,
To try the faery beer.

To dance among the people,fair,
And sing amongst their Queen,
In a castle far in the air,
In a place which is unseen.

But alas,Midsommer came,
No invitation sent,
I guess that I was to blame,
For my sadness and discontent.

If I had only let her be,
Left her to her own devices,
Then she might have been friends with me,
And i could have had some magic surprises.

But no faery ever returned,
Since the day I came from the tree,
They seem to be unconcerned,
With mortals,like you and me.

But it is said that on occasion,
When there's a blueness on the moon,
Through stealth and pure evasion,
Faeries come into your room.

Then they light up their lanterns small,
And the magic minstrels play,
They sing of the Queen's white halls,
Maybe they'll come to you,
One day…….

Nessa, that's wonderful!

These are three of my Austensongs, inspired by the works of Jane Austen.

Darcy, Knightley and Captain Wentworth.
Tune: Here's To The Maiden of Bashful Fifteen.
Tune can be heard at: http://www.contemplator.com/tunebook/england.htm

Darcy:

Lizzy is mine and she's witty and fine
Lizzy my match and my equal.
Had I but known what began when we met
I might then have hastened its sequel.

All:

What a good match, what a fine catch!
All men of importance and duty
Should understand what makes life grand,
Let's drink now to wit, warmth and beauty!

Knightley:

Emma's my wife and the joy of my life,
Sweet, kind and good, full of spirit.
Though she has faults, many men marry dolts,
So men who wed wit should not fear it.

All:

What a good match, what a fine catch!
All men of importance and duty
Should understand what makes life grand,
Let's drink now to wit, warmth and beauty!

Captain Wentworth:

Anne has seemed far from my hopes for so long
Though all the time I adored her
Now we're together and nothing will part
That jewel from the man who longed for her.

All:

What a good match, what a fine catch!
All men of importance and duty
Should understand what makes life grand,
Let's drink now to wit, warmth and beauty!

Madam, I am Darcy

Tune: Delilah
Tune can be heard at: http://bennieshepherd.com/pop-a-i.htm

I know you think you have seen all my qualities clearly
Though you see little that justifies naming them so
You think me selfish, selfish and prideful
Yet there are matters that none but my dearest friends know.
Madam, I am Darcy, and the name is mine to guard, I fear.
Madam, I am Darcy, and my sister's name I must keep clear.
If you knew the troubles I'm battling through
I flatter myself you would judge me less rude than you do.

I am the first to admit that I do not seem kindly
And I confess that I shun vulgar folk when I can.
I am undoing , simply undoing
All of the damage first caused by an odious man.
Madam, I am Darcy, and the name is mine to guard, I fear.
Madam, I am Darcy, and my sister's name I must keep clear.
If you knew the troubles I'm battling through
I flatter myself you would judge me less rude than you do.

Can you not see that to have such a name is a burden?
My precious sister was nearly induced to elope
Fleeing with Wickham, treacherous Wickham!
Now do you see why I struggle so hard just to cope?
Madam, I am Darcy, and the name is mine to guard, I fear.
Madam, I am Darcy, and my sister's name I must keep clear.
If you knew the troubles I'm battling through
I flatter myself you would judge me less rude than you do.

A Bit of Austen.
Tune: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Tune can be heard at: http://www.jr.co.il/music/midi/kids.htm

Dump the Dickens, grab a bit of Austen.
Eliot is not a patch on Austen.
All the Brontes barely match one Austen
Dump the Dickens, grab a bit of Austen.

We all love to read Jane Austen,
Love a bit of Austen, don't we dear?
Shakespeare rarely could write better
And most other writers don't come near.
Dashwoods arguing the worth of sense and sensibility
Catherine Morland always seeking a Gothic mystery.

Elizabeth Bennet's wit, who could not be won by it?
It even brought Darcy to his knees.
The dear, fragile Fanny Price, strong virtue in midst of vice
And Emma, so anxious to please.

Knightley, riding through the rain
And Captain Wentworth brooding brilliantly.
Crawford bravely battles Wickham
For the greater claim to infamy.
Darcy, covering his heart with barriers of grim disdain
All these wonders have been wrought by
George Austen's daughter Jane.

Anne Elliot's change of heart, a wonderful work of art,
Believable, beautiful, complete.
The trimmings, the crockery, the sharp yet kind mockery
Who else could achieve such a feat?

Bingley, and his darling Jane,
And dear Miss Bates with all her twittering
Foolish Lydia who dared to brandish her illicit wedding ring.
All those handsome haunting lads and quite a crop of cads as well.
Where is there another writer, such perfect tales to tell?
Where is there another writer, such perfect tales to tell?

These are all very good!! Here's another one of mine written about one of my former friends.

I'm torn in two,
one side of me wants to listen to you,
the other wants me to run away,
and forget everything I ever knew

I'm finding it impossible to forgive,
after what you did,
now who do I turn to,
when it used to be you

all the hurtful words thrown around,
I wouldn't make a sound,
just listened to my heart pound,
wondering if I could make it away

Wow ~One! I think that's really neat...it captures emotion very well. Reminds me of one of *my* former friends as a matter of fact...

*follows ~One's theme* This is something I wrote during a period of depression. I had just found out that my "best friend" had pretty much betrayed me..and yeah. *clears throat* This is what I came out with.

She's just a girl like you and I may meet
while walking down a busy street
Yet smiling eyes and face don't show
emotions hidden in the heart below

It is her full intent thus to conceal
the sorrow and grief that she does feel
so that others who would not understand
an explanation from her, demand

Yet in her private thought and mind,
she desperately wishes for one of a like kind
One whom she can talk to about anything
and faithlessly away from her shall not spring

She always was a trusting soul
and would confide in anyone she did know
in fact she had a "best friend" not long ago
then alas, it turned out this person was truely her foe

This person to her face had often lied
and said things about her, when she found out, she cried
All this person had wanted was to control her will
and the trust she once had, this person did kill

Now more than ever, she longs for a friend
Someone to share with, whose loyalty will not end
yet soured and hardened by experiances past
she's afraid to reach out, fearful that it wouldn't last

So now on she lives, the appearence of joy to keep
knowing many people, but never letting emotions run deep
Although that is what she longs for, so desperately,
she doesn't believe it will ever come to be.

Thanks. :blush: Though I'm convinced that my english teacher put a curse on me! I hated writing poems until she made us write poetry for Literature. Now I'm obsessed with it! *grins*

Now I have a question.. up earlier in the first post Vilya said
"Another fun thing is challenges. If your feeling daring, you can challenge another member to write a poem about a specific topic or in a specifc rhyming pattern. If they accceptm they can either write a poem that suites the criteria or find one by another author"

Do I need to challenge a specific person? Or just in general and see who takes me up on it? *curious*

I think its a specific person, but I'm not completely sure.

Here's the work of a Resident Insomniac

for so long she was my only friend
its so sad to finally see all this end
though we'd promised not to grow apart
I wondered how I could truly part

with the one I had held so dearly to my heart
in a way she would never truly leave
even with that bestowed in my mind
a heavy heart I do heave

it takes all the will power I have
not to let her see me cry
for when I am alone oceans of tears
fall from these eyes

so many things I wish I could say
for having an older friend I truly do pay
though the ties of family one cannot break
this feels like more than anyone should ever have to take.

^That was written about my older sister last night only to wake up to the fact that she's not going to go off to college until she's gone through ALL 4 grades of high school. Heh. Figures.

It's intended to be a challenge for a specific person, but I suppose it could work if you challenged anyone who could take it. In fact, it might be more fun that way

Here is a lament for lost Beleriand.

Beleriand Lament

In Neldoreth I walked secret paths,
The trees of Brethil knew me.
I crossed the Esgalduin, laughing.
In the halls of Menegroth I sang.
Sweet the laughter of my mother,
Dear the horn-sound of the hunters
Calling the approach of a feast.
Long my ears desire to hear
The whisper of Beleriand's leaves.
The sea drank the Pools of Twilight.
The sea covered the white birches.
The sea quenched the fires that made
Swords for war against the orcs.
An exile does not have great joy,
But more evil is the life when the homeland
Lies beneath sea, hidden forever.
Bitter my cup of lamentation.
I live beyond the days of my joy.
In dreams I wander through Nan Elmoth,
From the Celon I drink, but only in dreams.
The sea has my love and my enmity
The friend of my young days
Has taken by force all that was dearest to my heart.
Will I see a wood like Neldoreth?
I keep that hope and live.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I originally wrote it in Sindarin, the Sindarin version goes like this:
Naergon Beleriand.
Vi Neldoreth pannen raid thyrin,
In ngelaidh Brethil nin istanner.
Athrannen i Esgalduin, gladhol.
Vi themais Menegroth linnen.
Lend i lalaith naneth nín,
Mell i romru faradrim,
Canel i anglennad vereth.
Anann lhaw nín anírar lastad
I rhoss lais Beleriand.
I aear sunc Aelin-Uial.
I aear tump i mrethil nim
I aear luithiant in noer i echanner
Saer ylf-en-nirnaeth nín.
Cuion athan eraid 'lassen.
Vi elei, revion trî Nan Elmoth,
Uin Gelon sogon, dân vi elei erui.
I aear gâr velethen a cothen.
This is about Finrod's lost love.
Amárië.
Amárië, the sunset hour again would call me home
It whispers as the orange light is scattered on the foam,
And softly as the sunlight dies a voice says, "Here's the way,
To Valinor and your lost love, seek out Amárië!"
And fain would I obey that voice and walk those paths again
That weave across the scented fields unknown to dwarves and men
And find that sacred arbour where we whispered love's first words
And saw our souls go flying free and singing out like birds,
But I am exiled from your side and will not see your face
And cannot seek the comfort that was given by your grace.
A king I am, yet can't command the outcome I desire.
I speak in cool and measured tones, my poor heart all afire.
My memories of fair Aman are tortures to my soul
And with your dear name as a scourge, my heart cannot be whole.
I speak that name, as hands may press a wound that still gives pain
And know that while I bear that loss, I have small chance for gain.
I weep with burning bitter tears when I can be alone
And think how mad I was to think I'd claim you as my own.
I cling to hopes like butterflies, lost now in distant skies
And know that I must face the fact that every false hope dies.
I've built a city, echoing with music day by day,
Yet all those songs become one song, "Seek out Amárië!"
My halls are grand enough to be a rare gift to my bride,
But I'll not wed unless you'll be the lady at my side.
Amárië, Amárië, do you still think of me?
Do your eyes fill with loving tears as sunrise gilds the sea?
My grief is great, my longing, flames to drink a thousand seas.
I think of how you used to sing, beneath those distant trees.
I see you as you were that time, the last time that we met,
When we had not the words to say. I have not found them yet.
Your hair was lustrous, eyes alight, you spoke my name and made
A jewel of it too rich and rare. For that jewel I have paid.
For all those sweet delights of youth the price has been so great.
Amárië, you'd weep to see your lover in this state.
But how is my Amárië? I wonder if you wed
Some other husband when your love across the sea had sped.
I do not know which to prefer, the hope you'd wait for me
Or that you are the happy wife I thought you born to be.
If you are wed, I wish you joy, I never will condemn
If all my vows, which life made lies, have made you turn from them.
I grieve for you Amárië, but let me mourn alone.
Let not this sorrow touch your heart, where pain should not be known.
If you still wait, oh faithful heart, know that I wait for you
And dream unending dreams of love I know will not come true.
I speak your name in prayerful tones and hear the gulls and spray
Repeat the pure and sacred sound, the name Amárië.
Amidst the mountains breezes bear that blameless name to me
And I recall with aching heart all that we longed to be.
Could I return, I would not wait upon this fair, wild shore,
But turn back to the west again and stay there evermore.
Yes, were the choice my own, my love, I'd swiftly make my way
To fair Aman and give my life to my Amárië.
I'd seek no crown, no sign of rank, your love is all to me,
My one desire to be the one that you would have me be.
Or could I bring you here, my love, Beleriand would shine
In newer, brighter shades of green, lit by your love and mine.
I'd make you queen in Nargothrond and fall before your feet
And then my perfect happiness would be at last complete.
I know too well I have no strength my lonely doom to sway,
But whisper as a talisman, "My love, Amárië!"
All your poems are wonderful!!!
~This one I wrote for my character Nessa Telemnar~
~The Fate of Nessa~
Through darkness and the shadows lie,
A place of joy and light,
Where lost souls and hearts long broken,
Take refuge from the night.
Lonely children,abandoned and lost,
Are sheltered from their sorrow,
Yet,bitter songs of days long past,
Echo through until tomorrow.
When hope emerges,
And eased is pain,
All blackness fails,
No more is rain.
And again happiness is forged,
Fullfilment near,in sight,
Yet,foreboding echoes suffering,
And dimmed again is light.
For though all wounds are healed,
And darkness has left the soul,
All pain has not departed,
And left is still a hole.
Memories of a forgotten past,
Hurts that go too deep,
Dreams of things that might have been,
Upset the peace of sleep.
And none may console the broken,
Though try again they might,
THe sorrows have again woken,
The victim lost in their plight...”
And again happiness is forged,
Fullfilment near,in sight,
Yet,foreboding echoes suffering,
And dimmed again is light.
For though all wounds are healed,
And darkness has left the soul,
All pain has not departed,
And left is still a hole.
Memories of a forgotten past,
Hurts that go too deep,
Dreams of things that might have been,
Upset the peace of sleep.
And none may console the broken,
Though try again they might,
THe sorrows have again woken,
The victim lost in their plight...
Great poems everybody! LoTRgeek14, I love your poems. Don't worry about length, it's the quailty that matters and yours have good quality
Sorry that I don't have any to share at this time. I've got a busy weekend coming up (well, all my weekends are pretty busy, but this ones a holiday weekend) but I should be back on Tuesday and I promise I will post some then.
Until then, keep writing!
GAH! I'm so sorry I haven't been around for so very long!!!! Crazy amounts of homework and crazy amounts of traveling, but I'm here again to post more poems. Here's a poem by the great Tolkien himself from Return of the King.
To the Sea, to the Sea! The white gulls are crying,
The wind is blowing, and the white foam is flying.
West, west away, the round sun is falling.
Grey ship, grey ship, do you hear them calling,
The voices of my people that have gone before me?
I will leave, I will leave the woods that bore me;
For our days are ending and our years failing.
I will pass the wide waters lonely sailing.
Long are the waves on the Last Shore falling.
Sweet are the voices in the Lost Isle calling,
In Eressëa, in Elvenhome that no man can discover,
Where the leaves fall not: land of my people for ever!
~~~~~~~~
Well, that is all that I have to post just now. I am working on the ending to the "Wanderers" poem and it's going pretty well. I'll post that once I'm happy with what I've come up with. I hope to post again soon! Navaer!

Oh, yay! I can't wait to hear it, Lothiel. Here are the poems I promised.

A Windy Day Adventure
The wind blows
let yourself be caught
be one with that
which you once fought
carried away
on the waves of sky
past clouds like ships
and the sun's bright eye
pick the cherry blossoms
as you fly low
on the wings of wind
let them fall like snow
at last, night comes
and you must rest
you'll sleep 'til the day
upon the moon's crest

Night Everlasting
Oh how I wish
for night everlasting
how I long for the
cold sullen rain
while the wind in the forest
sends the tree branches crashing
and the fury of nature
reflects my own pain.

Those are beautiful! Here are a couple of songs.

Thoughts of Lorien.
Tune: El Shaddai
Tune can be heard at http://ww4.choice.net/~dyan/midis.html (El Shaddai #1)

I will walk neath the eaves of the wood of golden leaves,
Where a gathering of Elves made a haven for themselves.
Cerin Amroth where I met my love and pledged my life
Is the place that I recall most of all.

She is there in the air, beautiful beyond compare.
Though she stays in Elrond's hall, still she hears me when I call
And Lothlorien resounds to her laughter's silver sounds.
For the hill on which we met can't forget.

What may come, where I'll go, I can't see and I don't know.
There's a war that I must win fought without and fought within.
Such a glorious goal, yet the doubts assail my soul,
And I bless each hour I stood in the haven of that wood.

For on that hidden place lies a special kind of grace
There's a memory of words that still flutter there like birds.
There's a dream that seems real and a love that I can feel
And a peace that will not cease, sweet release!

A Morning Song - Legolas.
Tune: Una Paloma Blanca.
Tune can be found at: http://www.jonritchie.mcmail.com/mid.htm

Now I feel I could run forever
My legs are tireless and my heart
Beats out a drum to match my footfalls.
How did so sweet a morning start?

The sky is blue and almost cloudless
And to the east a world of green
Off to the west the Misty Mountains
Have now acquired a golden sheen.

There ahead, the trees of Mirkwood,
Jade-leaved in the early sun
All refreshment I will find there,
At the ending of my run.

But my feet remain untiring
In this world so fresh and bright
Only this inspiring morning
Could do justice to last night.

Bright were the stars at midnight
Set there like jewels in the sky
Now the grass gleams like emeralds,
How could it not catch the eye?
Yes I will run, to dance with the sun.

I can hear a small bird singing,
The same wonder in his voice.
He and I share this sweet morning
And cannot help but rejoice.

Bright were the stars at midnight
Set there like jewels in the sky
Now the grass gleams like emeralds,
How could it not catch the eye?
Yes I will run, to dance with the sun.

There's a richness to this summer
I have never seen before
And no morning like this morning
Ever urged my soul to soar.

Bright were the stars at midnight
Set there like jewels in the sky
Now the grass gleams like emeralds,
How could it not catch the eye?
Yes I will run, to dance with the sun.

Autumn in Rivendell
Tune: Love is Like a Butterfly
Tune can be heard at: http://jhfoster.tripod.com/the70s.html

Autumn's come to Rivendell
Sweet voices call like ringing bells.
A time to rest before the path
Can claim your feet again.

If we have any kind of art
To lift the burdens from your hearts
We'll grant you peace in autumn days
Before the winter's come.

The leaves may gather round our feet
But we have many guests to greet,
And soon we'll fill the Hall of Fire
With poetry and song.

The autumn has to fade, we know,
And likewise all our guests will go
But we will trust that spring will come
And all our friends return.

Enjoy your time in Elrond's home
Before through wilder realms you roam
Enjoy the evening's happiness
Before the fall of night.

In Rivendell be glad of heart
This lovely land still stands apart
From mountains grim and lands that lie
Beneath a shadowed veil.

In Rivendell no harm will come
Until all Elven might's undone
Though leaves may fall, your tears will not
And laughter fills the dells.

So welcome then, to Rivendell
Where voices ring like silver bells,
Where Hope was sheltered long ago
And yet is to be found.

Though autumn's come to Rivendell
The borders all are sound.

Aragorn's Song for Eowyn.
Tune: Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You.
Tune can be heard at: http://myhome.shinbiro.com/~midi/pops2/pops2.htm

Though so many problems vie for my attention
Yours is not the least of them,
I know I'm to blame.
I regret that I could not have come to love you
For my heart was given
Before I heard your name.

Bright you are and fair and young
As lovely as a ray of sun.
Rohan's prize, Rohan's light
But my heart cleaves to the twilight.

Were the human heart 'neath human rule,
The object of its love a chance for choosing,
Maybe we would choose better
And keep our hearts from unwise fetters.
But I would hope not to fetter you
Not to bring your light into my shadow.
Queenship would hardly suit you
While there's a battle to recruit you.

I believe there is a man more worthy of you
A heart more fit for love of you,
A love to bring you bliss
Such a lady richly merits such a suitor
A waste of time to wish for such
A worthless heart as this.

Bright you are and fair and young
As lovely as a ray of sun.
Rohan's prize, Rohan's light
But my heart cleaves to the twilight.

Lady, live in joy, delight in life
Whatever man may earn your love is blessed
Be glad and smile your splendour
Never think of this pretender.
Every day you live I'll wish for you
The happiness that seems today so distant
Let this fair flower of Rohan
Forget the frost and bloom in full sun.

Lady you are fairest of your land,
The loveliest of all who tread the grasslands.
Had I a heart untaken
Its walls, though stone, would soon be shaken.
Never have the Rohirrim been mean,
They let their finest jewel be seen by strangers
But they should not bestow her
Upon a one who barely knows her.

Lady, live in joy, delight in life
Whatever man may earn your love is blessed
Be glad and smile your splendour
And never think of this pretender.
Every day you live I'll wish for you
The happiness that seems today so distant
Let this fair flower of Rohan
Forget the frost and bloom in full sun evermore.

lalala ^_^ new one of mine...short n sweet o.0

Thunderstorm
It's raining outside,
Big, heavy drops.
I hear thunder
And lightning.
I feel the vibrations of the Earth
A each bolt hits the ground.
I watch my soul as it washes away
Wih each fierce pound.
Too soon will the storm subside,
But its strength will remain,
Far and wide.

[Lollypop's note: This was moved in here from another thread.]

Hey, I might be wrong but I don't think we have a place for members to subbmit their own poems about the books or Tolkien. If we do then someone please tell me. But if we don't I think we should have one. Also, please tell me what you think of this poem I wrote.

Hobbits Are Not Just In Our Imagination

Some say that Hobbits are just imaginary.
Me, I say that they are people who are just extra ordinary.

Those among us who are patient and a bit wise,
Must also be able to make delicious pies.

Those among us who can sneak around
Must have hairy feet touching the ground

Those among us who have the best gardens of all
Must come from Brandy Hall.

Now just one question for you to answer
Have you ever met a dancer

Who dances a jig to a very lively tune
All night long to the moon,

Who stays up late for a drink of ale
By the bucket or the pail.

Then you should not single out
The one possibility you most likely doubt

That, that extra ordinary person might be
A hobbit unlike you and me.

Thanks a bunch!

Hello all! I'm sorry, i haven't yet finished the end to the "Wanderers" poem, but I promise, the next time I post, it will be here! Ok, here's a poem that I wrote. It's a traditional Iambic-pentameter sonnet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The River
The river ahead is truly too pure
For any boat to gently glide across.
Though how easily her shimmers would lure
Any waking man and bring us to loss.
Why, the trees ahead are so tall and so green!
How much we long for the darkening shade,
And though the tall wonders may seem serene
Their beautiful appeal may quickly fade.
But her cool waters are too hard to pass!
We must move closer to drink from her lips.
Gaining ever nearer, one shouts "Alas!"
"We cannot reach her with our finger tips!"
Our feet no more long the sand's sweet massage
as we sob, "Curse you, you wretched mirage!"
Those are great!
I just wrote this
Silence at Cuiviénen
We awoke in silence, at the lakeside,
We who have not since stopped talking.
Our eyes opened to the stars in darkness,
We had not seen jewels or bright eyes or lanterns,
Had nothing with which to compare them,
No words to describe them, we lay speechless!
Never since have we allowed that, shunning silence,
We have made words, built languages,
Turned our voices a thousand ways,
Brought music into the world to shimmer,
Another language, another way of speaking,
Seeking the words that will say, clearly and well,
What we saw in that first hour and every night.
We seek to trammel the stars in words,
To define the infinite and make of living beauty a living song.
Do not mock us for our love of words, our haste to speak.
The greatest builder began as a clumsy child,
Putting one wood block atop another, weeping when they fell.
We are learning how to speak, finding the words,
Howling our frustration when our words fall short.
We crave the sentence that will speak
To all ages, the stars at Cuiviénen.
We seek the word to match the vision,
Long to say in one word or a thousand,
What we saw when our eyes opened.
We want to speak our thanks to Varda,
To pay in our silver sounds for her silver gifts,
But our silver does not yet match hers.
We have taught others to speak, hoping thereby to teach ourselves.
We have made writing, to hold the words when we find them.
We speak and sing and sigh and a voice is heard
Within our souls, urging us to search
For the words must be there somewhere,
Stirred by beauty as is the song of birds.
Even Melian could not teach us,
But even Sauron could not silence us,
Nor will the long ages end our efforts,
There will be words as sacred as the starlight,
And songs will yet uncover the heartsong
That awoke and gazed upon the stars
In the stillness and the silence of Cuiviénen.
Orcs are everywhere
killing, pillaging, plunder
is their only game
Golden hair, she stood
Aragorn saw Éowyn
his thoughts turned toward her
Brand new.... my friend told me about this but I would like to submit one of my poems here and get a response... (please!) If you can get achance introduce yourselfs so I can meet new people. Here is my poemDo they have to be LotR?)
*fingers through notebook* This one!
In a sea of dirt
and
crimson blood,
a figure lays,
drowning.
Sprawled, but floating
on the sea of red,
his eyes close,
and
breath leaves him
for one last time.
A scarlet braid
of raven hair
shimmers,
and the grasp
upon
his sword grows limp.
Just one more passenger
taken by the bloddy sea.
The ultimate sacrifice,
in the death of one more
silent passenger.
So sorry I haven't been posting lately. I've been busy and I haven't had time to write anything either.
Neneithel lots of wonderful songs, as usual. And I just love 'Silence at Cuiviénen' breathtaking!
LoTRgeek14 dazzling, I rarely get rain as I live in the desert and your poem reminds me of all the thunderstorms that I've watched
AiyaEssenyaHannah cool poem, I like it!
Lothiel neat poem! And don't rush the "Wanderers" poem. Take your time and make it good (I know you will )
faramirgirl and Arveleg cool haikus. It's always nice to have some variety in writing styles. Feel free to post more of them!
lilpippin wow! I like it! No, the poems don't have to be LotR related, just write about what you feel like. And if you're still feeling lonely, you can pm me if you like.
So, once again, sorry for not posting lately and for not having a poem to share this time.
Keep up the terrific work everyone!
