Post Casting Forum Rules (Please Read)
on: October 31, 2002 07:16
Welcome to the Casting Forum. As you look around and post, please take the following rules into consideration:

1) Please do not duplicate threads. Not only does this slow the forum, but it makes more work for the moderators. We would appreciate it if you take the time to make sure that you aren't cloning a thread before you post. If you want to start a thread, check here first, to see if it may be a 'clone'.

2) Overtly sexual comments are not allowed. If you are contacted by a moderator and asked to remove or edit a comment for this reason, please do so in a timely manner. Your comment will be edited by a moderator if you do not do it yourself. There are many younger members that view this forum, and I'm sure that their parents would appreciate it if things are kept at PG levels.

3) Homophobic or any other discriminating remarks are not allowed.

4) There is a separate thread for discussion of all off-topic actors here. We would appreciate it if you would please not post threads for individual off-topic actors. This is a LotR board, and it would be best if most of the content is about LotR. Drooling over fictional characters is to take place in the Comfort me and confess your crush thread.

5) Please, if you have a link that does not fit into any particular thread, check our links section and submit it there. Do not post a new thread for the link! This clutters the forum.

6) If you have an address for an actor's manager, please check it against the ones that are listed in our FAQ section. If your address is not there, then you can send it to Rivka in a PM. For any contact information, see this thread.

7) Don't express your love for a character/actor using long, unbroken strings of an actor/character's name with no spaces and so on, (for example Elrond:heart:Elrond:love:Elrond:heart: etc) as this distorts the page.

It's fine to say a certain aspect of Lord of the Rings is not to your liking. However, there is a fine line between saying "So-and-so is a poor actor" or "Peter Jackson did a poor job adapting the books to the big screen" and saying "So-and-so needs to be drug into the street and shot so that the human race will be a better place" or "So-and-so sucks!" Please be respectful when sharing your opinion about an actor, the way they look, the way they act, and every other aspect conerning that person. Also, please refrain from putting down an actor's chosen life-style. If, for instance, they are dating another actor or actress that you are not very fond of (even if your only reason for disliking them is because they are dating the actor in question), just remember that so long as the actor/actress is happy, while you don't necessarily have to be happy for them, it would be greatly appreciated if you did not express how much you despise their signifigant other by talking about how you want them to kill them, etc. Basically, remain mature when stating your opinion and don't mindlessly bash the actors/characters.

9) If you would like to remind everyone of a TV appearance for a certain actor (or somewhere else that the actor may be appearing), please do so in that actor's designated thread. New threads started just to alert everyone that one of the actors is going to be on some talk-show will be removed. If the actor does not have a thread dedicated to them (or their character), you may start a new thread, but it will be removed once the TV appearance has occured.

10) Please check this thread often for any changes or additions to these rules.

We want this to be a place where anyone, regardless of age, gender, or orientation can feel at home. Thank you all for your cooperation. And thank you for being such great members. Where would we be if it weren't for you guys and your support? Thank you!:love::heart:

To all those that don't know, there is a link on the Forum navigation bar (right underneath the bar that says "Council of Elrond. You are logged in as _____" and just above the Board Index and other links) that says "Search." Before posting a new topic or poll, please run a search for a key word that describes your topic!!!!! Cloned threads are not a good thing. They just clutter the forum and create more work for the moderators. This should be common courtesy. Thank you!

Quoted from a post by Valaöré on 12/13/2003:
What are cloned threads, you ask? These are threads that someone created that could have easily gone into another thread that already has been created. There are a few reasons why moderators do not like cloned threads, one being that they slow and clutter the forum. Plus, coming into the forum and having to close five of them in a row is just not pleasant. It makes us irritable...yessssssss prrrrreciousssssss, very, very irritable. And trust me, irritable mods aren't fun. We don't enjoy it any more than you do.

How do you avoid cloned threads? Good question! I'm so glad you asked!

Run a search for the topic that your comment will fit in. Say you have a juicy piece of information about Elijah Wood. Here's what you would put in the fields:

Search for: Elijah Wood
by (username): [skip this]
in (forum): Casting Forum [select from drag-down box]
Search in: topics [select this option]

Then click the Search button. The next page should pull up a list of all threads in the Casting Forum that have Elijah Wood in the topic. Pick the best one for your comment.

Now, here are a few examples of the most common cases of cloned threads, and places where these things should go:

*TV appearances of Actors --------> individual actors' threads
*Questions about the actors ------> actors' threads
*Websites for the actors ------------> Links section or *gasp* actors' threads
*Just drooling over an actor---------> *double gasp* Actors' threads
*Drooling over characters ------------> Characters' threads.
Now, because I havea ridiculously systemic and compulsive mind, I have recently put together a sort of table of contents for this forum, to see it click here. This should aid you in figuring out whether or not the thread you are start is indeed a clone.

We have not had too much trouble with this lately, but as I am removing the original thread that Valaöré posted in, I wanted to be sure that her thorough explanation of the thread-cloning issue lived on.
