It may be of interest to see how Tolkien himself wrote the name Michael. It is not in a phonemic mode, but rather in an orthographic tehta mode. The tengwar inscription by Tolkien on the title page of Michael Endorion's copy of The Return of the King reads: For Michael, son of Middle-earth. Elen síla lúmenn' omentielmo. J-R-R-T.
