That's really cool! I'm from Meredith, right on Lake Winnipesaukee, which is only an hour or two from Hanover!

Finally managed to find it with Google maps.
Definitely a case of there being a BIG difference between "as the crow flies" and "as the car can get through". Lebanon, NH, is definitely a place I have been (because Lebanon NH had a Burger King? Even 40 years ago there were some among us - including me - who were McDonald's Snobs.)

Did Hanover not have a Burger King? In Meredith, we have only one McDonalds. Many small diners though, it's a very cute town.
You can live in Meredith if you don't love boats, hiking, or water.

I'm talking about September 1973 to September 1975. Neither McD nor BK had opened affiliates in the US in the density that they now have done so even here in Germany. Hanover had more that enough inns, pubs, eateries to satisfy the needs of that time. And opening hours at McD and BK were nowhere near to 24/7 as they are now. As far as I know neither has a 24/7 affiliate anywhere in the "metropolitan area" centering around Nürnberg (Nuremberg). That is handled by the Gas stations with included mini-supermarkets.

Has anyone ever thought of having a meet? It would be nice to get together with fellow Tolkien fanatics.

I'll throw this in again. Originally from Ohio and transplanted to central Florida.

I will move back to Ohio someday.

Oh, DragonxKing, meets are sometimes talked about but members are from all over the world. Those members in the states might be able to work something out.

Oh dear. Were you affected by those horrific forest fires?

We weren't affected by the fires but by the smoke for about 10 days. We couldn't see the end of street (about 8 houses away...) and my eyes burned when I went outside. For several days, the Bay Area had the worst pollution in the world...

I have a friend who retired to a small town just north of Paradise and she lost everything...

Suilad, Hanasian, (FYI I changed my name to Engolwen, my normal name translated to Sindarin (: ) Thank you for responding, it is very heartening to see the site is still active! I could not see any posts any sooner than 2018 practically. I tried to join a realm, that didn't work ): no one is on the site anymore I think, but it really is amazing, such a great resource. How is Austrailia? (:

Pleased to meet you Lady Engolwen! *bows*
Right now it's cool and rainy here, but it will be warmer in a couple days.
This place still has a little bit of activity, but not too much. A lot of good lore, but the site hasn't been working properly for a number of years. This Dúnedain Ranger still rides through these barren lands now and again, and it warms my heart to meet someone new!
