Chapter IX The Death of Beleg on: November 12, 2007 11:24
1)It seemed rather easy for Gwindor to escape from Angband. Is this due to incompetence, lousy guarding by the rcs, or was it deliberately easy to escape?
2) There are some members, currently reading this book, that have not read The Silmarillion, and this question will help them with some background information; What was special and unusual about the sword, Anglachel, that Beleg carried?

It is very possible that it is deliberate. Morgoth was seeking Gondolin and Nargothrond and may have let Gwindor escape in an attempt to find out where it was.

Anglachel and Anguirel were swords made by Eöl the Dark Elf. They were made from black iron from a "flaming star" and both swords were extremely strong. Eöl gave Anglachel to Thingol for payment to stay in his land.

I think that it must have been deliberate. I very much doubt that Morgoth would have been that careless, and it was probably allowed so that he would hopefully lead Morgoth to one of the realms that he was trying to seek out.

It was made in the Elder Days by Ëol, a Grey_Elven smith, from a strange black metal found by him in the heart of a stone that fell from the sky. It resembled iron, but was much harder than both iron and steel, and did not reflect light.
