Chapter quote, XIVa, The Journey of Morwen and Nienor on: January 28, 2008 01:06
Morwen, when asking for permission to leave Doriath;
'You did not hold Turin from peril, but me you will hold from him.' cried Morwen. 'In the keeping of Melian! Yes a prisoner of the Girdle! Long did I hold back before I entered it, and now I rue it.'
Does anything, about this statement, trouble you? Why does Morwen make the statement, and is it accurate?

I think she is basically saying that Thingol and Melian were responsible for Turin's current fate and that they were holding her prisoner against her will. In my opinion it is very hurtful, disrespectful, ungrateful and completely untrue. Thingol and Melian did their best to keep Turin with them and have always treated him like their own son and have taken very good care of his family as well. Morwen was very upset at the time and said what she did out of frustration and grief but I think that deep down she really meant it.
