Post LIBRARY PROJECT: Encyclopedia Entries- The Hobbit - Submission guidelines
on: January 01, 2009 10:41
ED: Many thanks to PB for setting up this list of Encylopedia terms we need for The Hobbit. I have sorted his list now into “Terms we need to add” and “Terms we already have” (which need checking for errors and omissions)

Any member may submit entries for Elrond’s Library Encyclopedia, so if you fancy writing a definition of a missing term, it isn't difficult, and of course we'll welcome help checking existing entries.

Read the guidelines below and then just go to the Encyclopedia and click on Submit a Term, and fill in the boxes.

Don't worry too much about the pronunciation and links boxes. We can edit them in. Don't feel you have to write deathless prose. As long as you give us the information we can edit. Your name will still be enshrined as the submitter.

There are just two main rules for the body of the text.

Firstly, everything we write for CoE MUST BE IN OUR OWN WORDS and not borrowed from books and on-line guides .... short quotes from Tolkien are ok.

Secondly, Information must come from Tolkien's own works. Additional information can come from HoME, Letters etc, but we must say so.

Go on ... have a go ...

This first list is of
Terms for which we do not yet have a direct entry.

Roac, Carc, Bill Huggins, Great Goblin, Etc.; do we classify them as people or beasts?

ED: Well, the Beast classification has been combined with plants under Flora and Fauna, as of this morning. ... but to answer you question Carc and Roac are definitely beasts, trolls generally are beasts, but Bill Huggins needs to go under People because that is where searchers will look for him. The Great Goblin, being a sort of proto-Orc is also a person. ... Cirdaneth
