Post Chapter III.11 Of The Sun And Moon and the Hiding of Valinor

1) Manwe wept when he started hearing the response of Feanor to his herald, but his mood changed when Feanor started to boast the the Noldor would do deeds that would be remembered in song. Why the change in disposition?

2) Morgoth attacks the Moon and what do the Valar do? Rather than go after him, they protect themselves with bigger walls and abandon the rest of the world. Could such an isolationist attitude be appropriate?

3) The fruit of dying Laurelin was placed in a container and became the sun. Is anyone else puzzled as to why the Valar didn't let the fruit ripen and then plant a seed?
