"I seek to once more return to the border. There's at least one more troll that needs to be taken down before falling back and forming a more decisive plan of attack. If we continually just attack the trolls, we merely cure the symptoms and not the cause. Think on this, please... those that seek to join with me, please join me in the front entry way in an hours time."

"I'm with you," Talfryn said, shifting himself from his chair, Dale immediately at his feet. "I've nothing else to do and can make myself feel useful." It was the truth, after all. But little did they know that Talfryn actually possessed a rare talent, amongst Men at least. He welded wonderful swords, many of which had never left the North. Few he crafted, and the ones he did were spoken of in high terms among the local nobility. His pride and joy he carried with him, however. The blade in question was sheathed at Talfryn's side as he strode out with Tholinnas and the others who chose to join in the party.

Eghlad, recovered from his ordeal, kept up to pace with the Elven horses. Though not as light on his hooves as they were, Eghlad was a quiet and sturdy ride, versed in the ways of keeping silent on trails by avoiding brush and not spooking at the scatterings of animals large and small. Talfryn was nervous about facing another Troll, but something about Rivendell soothed him. Maybe it was the atmosphere, maybe it was the Elves. In any instance, he felt more confident with what was to come.

(OOC: I gave Talfryn a skill with weapons since I thought it'd give him a sense of pride for being a mere commoner as well as something the Elves could possibly remark upon at a later point in time. Is that alright with everyone?)

((I am really sorry I haven't gotten back to this, life is a nightmare, and I can barely keep up with my school work. Anyway, Imarië is staying in Imladris))

Completely unaware of the flurry around her as she helped the elleth down, Imarië wandered off by herself, and left the planning of a party to go back into the wilds to the others. She would never have mentioned this to anyone, but fighting two trolls in one day ws exhausting her. Even though she had been fighting down in the south all season, troll-fighting had been very unheard of.

When she heard others speak of elleths getting ready to ride, Imarië finally turned back from the waterside she had layed herself by. She probably looked a right mess, leaves in hair, dirt on her face, she didn't even wish to think of it. On her way, she passed a doorway to a dark-lit room, where the elleth she had helped before lay peacefully, alone and quietly. Imarië had just reached the other side of the doorway, when a voice called her back.

"What happened to me?"

She turned back, peeking into the room, hoping that someone else was there to take the question. No one was in sight. Imarië unwillingly made her way into the room, approaching the bed with as much quietness as her tired body could manage.

"Hello," She began softly "You were attacked, by a troll." Heavens, she sounded blunt and emotionless, "Another elleth and I heard your cries, and came to help. Are you...feling better?" It was sounded a stupid as it really was, of course she wouldn't be alright yet, the troll had broken many bones in her body.

Limwen looked up at Tholinnas, "Oh yes, I forgot that those on border patrol get all of the outside information first, but none from the inside." She smiled. "Imladris has been much the same as usual, except for the fact that the trolls were causing some tension. But none of us knew just how much of a threat they are." She thought for a moment then added: "Except Lord Elrond maybe, he knows much." Limwen fell silent again and the two rode on, each enjoying the companionship the other afforded.

After a few minutes, Limwen asked her own question: "I know you fought a troll at the border, but that can't be all that happened while you were out. Won't you please tell me more of your adventures?" But at that moment, one of the frontmost riders signaled that they had arrived. Limwen and Tholinnas had been riding at the back, so when the others stopped, they continued forward to the front of the company before dismounting.

It was clear that this was were the attack had been, the underbrush and many of the lower branches were mangled and broken, there were also traces of blood scattered about, not much, but enough to be obvious to their elven eyes. "The troll went that way." Limwen remarked, pointing. This statement was unneeded as the group could easily see which direction the destruction continued in.

Tirananniel turned towards the new, soft spoken voice. It was another elf, she looked tired and had leaves in her hair.
"I think I am, I'm not sure really." Tira replied, just a soft as before. A memory came back and she recognized the elleth by the door, "I remember you now. What is your name?"

Imarië had winced to hear herself talk in so dead voice, but the elleth seemed not to notice. She was probably too exhausted and in pain to care.

"My name is Imarië Bladesinger. I am a guest to Lord Elrond for a while. I met some of his elves on my travels nearby, and we also ran into a troll."

She sat on the edge of the bed, towards the bottom, so as not to jar the elleth's broken bones too much. Imarië merely watched the other through narrowed eyes, wondering how this elleth came to be traveling alone. Then she remembered that she too, had been alone, till the others had the misfortune to stumble upon herself and a troll. For the life of her, Imarië didn't know which was worse, herself, or a big nasty troll who liked to kill and eat elleths and men.

Tirananniel noticed Imarië's narrowed eyes as she sat, it made her smile because she, herself used to watch others that way.
"Why do you look at me so? Have I gone without a mirror for so long and not noticed that I have grown hideous?" Tira teased gently. She watched the other elleth, in order to gauge her reaction to the playfulness. Her face lost its smile though, as she slowly remembered what had happened.

Imarië tightened her lips into a half grimace-half smile, unsure how to react to the elleth's teasing. The dwarves did like to make jokes, but the took so long in telling them, Imarië usually either fell asleep, or left befre they were finished. If by some chance she still was around by the time they got to the actually funny part, it really wasn't much worth it.

This elleth though, was remarkably more funny than most of the dwarves, even after the incident with the troll. Imarië tried a brighter smile, using muscles she hadn't felt in a while. She didn't know how well she succeded, but hoped it wasn't really bad. Clearing her throat, she thought of a comeback that was as funny,

"You may not want to look in a mirror, it might crack." She stopped suddenly, realizing she was being rude. She sighed impatiently to herself, that was what she got by living a longside uncouth humans.

As they moved through the forest, following the obvious path the troll had taken, Talfryn kept senses sharp. He observed everything around them, from the shadow patterns on the trees and the direction of the wind to the movements of lesser creatures and his animals' reactions to their surroundings. Dale and Eghlad were of course more perceptive than Talfryn. Dale kept ahead of the group, nose to the ground. Suddenly, he halted in his tracks, ears raised, a growl deep in his throat. What they sighted ahead, however, was not a troll...

Tirananniel struggled not to laugh at Imarie's painful look. She lifted her left hand slightly and waved it a bit, "Keep going, you were on the verge of a small insult." The elleth grinned tiredly at the shocked look her companion gave, "I mean it, please continue."

“Noro lim, Mîdh! Noro lim!” Cellárë road swiftly, her head bent against Mîdh’s powerful body. The two, rider and stallion, were as one. Her white-blonde hair cascaded behind her like a brilliant spring of silver sunlight flowing and intertwining with the coarser hair of her stallion. His massive flanks rippled with their unparalleled strength as his hooves flew over the earth while Cellárë’s heart pounded fiercely against her chest. She was sure it would break free from her ribcage and be swept away in the furls of dust and dead leaves trailing behind them. Her own thighs, strong and lean hugged Mîdh’s body as she urged them onward. The dense foliage seemed suffocating, the strip of road narrowed and diminished before them but Mîdh was a smart horse and avoided the branches which reached out like claws to unseat his mistress.

Tears streamed down her face mixing with the blood which trickled from the cut along her left cheek. Nightmarish scenes flashed before her eyes obscuring her vision perhaps more than the tears themselves. These tears continued to cloud her vision as they burst into a wider clearing. The trees here were lush yet more beautiful than the gnarled branches of the Trollshaws.

Suddenly blurry figures came into view. She could only distinguish them against the trees because these shapes moved in contrast to the rather stoic forest floor. Cellárë quickly wiped the tears from her eyes smearing blood across the back of her hand. She could see a bit more clearly now. It was a group, certainly an unusual amalgamation of people. She twisted his reins around her hands, her knuckles growing white in an effort to hold on. Regaining her composure somewhat she pulled gently on the reins as they were fast approaching the company. Mîdh came to a steady halt turning sideways in front of the group and reared onto his hindquarters momentarily.

It was then that she realised her chest was heaving, her breath quick. She could barely speak. “Trolls,” was all she could manage. Cellárë was shaken from the event and her entire body quivered with the loss of her father figure Gifuléon. “There are trolls,” she managed finally catching her breath, yet her sentences remained broken, “You… must not go…” she gestured behind her, “We were attacked,” she breathed, “They k-” she couldn’t say it, her voice caught in her throat as if she were choking on something and she gulped. If she said it then it would surely be true, grief overwhelmed her heart. “There are two of them,” she managed.

Limwen looked up in surprise. An elleth was the last thing she expected to see on the troll's path of destruction. A million questions to ask the stranger sprung to her mind, but instead, she merely asked, "Are you all right?"

Limwen could could tell the elleth was injured, but she was mostly referring to her mental state. "We're tracking a troll, possibly one of the ones you met, but I'm sure we could spare someone to escort you to Imladris, if that is were you are headed."

Another troll attack, she thought grimly. How many did that make, just today? Imladris was strong, but how strong? Limwen didn't know when Elrond had last had to use his full strength.

Tholinnas did not even attempt levity. He looked at Limwen, a seldom used tone of authority creeping into his voice

"Take care of her, and stay here. Since I know you'll want to come along, atleast help her catch her breath and get her on her way. Should you wish to join us too, Lady" he said, addressing the newest elleth to cross his path this day "catch your breath lest you come to further harm. Although" as he eyed her, and the cuts that marred her face "get you to Imladris. Just go. Limwen, please go back with her, but, as I already mentioned, atleast see to it that she knows where to go" He amended his statement at the bud of indignation starting to bloom on her face at being ordered away.

He gritted his teeth, not waiting for a response, he wheeled his steed in the direction the elleth had indicated.

"Follow me!" the others probably didn't need his encouragement, as they all rode towards the trolls...

and there they were- crashing through trees and brush alike, heading towards Imladris and those that he promised to defend. Two trolls. There were three of them at the moment, and possibly Limwen. He hoped that she'd escort the other elleth back to Rivendell, but... he gritted his teeth as he thought about the foolishness of elleths, thinking of Limwen and Baudhiel in particular.

He gestured the others around him-

lowering his tone until it was scarce above a whisper "this is dire, we'll never be able to take down the pair of them together, not with our limited number, so, the first task is to separate them so that we may take them down individually. I would not count on reinforcements at this point in time. It's up to us. I feel that if we could even momentarily incapacitate one to lure the other off..."

he paused for a moment

"Talfryn, think Dale and Dornadann would work as a distraction? you and I could attempt to take down the first while the other troll is led on a chase... we don't even need to kill it at first, just take it down. We can't let it chase after Dornadann for very long, but after that, it would be easier to emerge victorious."

he left off that this would still not be an east task. Not by a long shot.

"But we must act soon" He winced as a tree fell in the distance

“Yes… No…” Cellárë answered Limwen with a shake of her head. She inhaled a deep breath trying to calm her nerves. Regaining her composure she looked up at Tholinnas, an elleth who clearly seemed to be the leader of this outfit. “No,” she said suddenly a waiver of defiance in her otherwise soft voice. She took another breath, it was uncommon for her to be so outspoken in such a manner as this, at least to those she saw as authoritative figures. Cellárë was an uncommonly stubborn elleth that trait she had learned from Gifuléon. “I am not as badly injured as I may look and if I join you I can lead you to where the trolls last were,” she stated reasonably and with a sense of stoicism, “And I am a fair shot,” she gestured to her bow and arrows, “It looks as though you could use another pair of hands.”

With Tholinnas’ orders, or at least those he had given to the others, she was not keen on reaching Imladris, not when two trolls wished to rip it apart and all she had to think about was Gifuléon’s death, the man she had once called father. She listened to his whispers and thought his plan a good one. “What if one of them was chasing after one of us instead?” Cellárë suggested. She was probably overstepping her bounds simply by coming with them, and though she had never seen battle Gifuléon had been a brilliant strategist and often told her stories of his glory days in the battlefield. “What if I were to lure one of them away into a trap, I passed a grove of trees and a small clearing not far that way,” she pointed to her right, “Mîdh and I were riding a bit erratically,” she explained, “Two of you could be hiding in the trees, we might be able to take it by surprise?”

Back in Imladris, Baudhiel stared at the fireplace in the Hall of Fire. having been resting since her return from her border patrol and encounter with some trolls, it was disrupted by a sudden feeling of unease. Tholinnas and the others only have left hours ago she shouldn't be this worried, He was a capable leader and warrior and with the others help they will get the job done and be on their way back. But this feeling hasn't let off for a while now.

With a determined and slightly unladylike grunt Baudhiel headed back to her chambers and got ready to head out to lend aid to the others. Soon she was riding through the Gates of Imladris with her bow strapped on her back and her axe on her hip. She followed what visible tracks she can see and soon didn't need to follow those anymore, she need only listen to the roar's of more trolls.

Baudhiel steadied her horse and left him in a safe area and headed to her companions

“What if I were to lure one of them away into a trap, I passed a grove of trees and a small clearing not far that way,” she pointed to her right, “Mîdh and I were riding a bit erratically,” she explained, “Two of you could be hiding in the trees, we might be able to take it by surprise?”

Baudhiel came up from behind Limwen and the strange girl.

"That is a possible strategy, but we have to make sure the people in the trees have a clear shot at the legs." Baudhiel looked at Tholinnas and the others. "The faster we can bring them down by immobilizing them the better."

Talfryn kept his thoughts to himself as the others relayed their ideas back and forth. Of course, what he clearly desired to do was to leave the trolls to their own devices and remove himself back to Bree, but such an option proved not feasible. Secondly, this was a matter for the Elves and Lord Elrond; what right did the Man to interfere with those of the First Born. But no matter, Tholinnas had asked his opinion, and the others, including the new elf-lady, waited on his word.

Furrowing his brows, Talfryn shifted his weight in his leather saddle, glancing at them all in turn. He spoke reluctantly, "Tholinnas, we indeed can use them as a lure. Or, as we surmise the path these vile things are taking, let us take a good length of rope, secure it around two trees of a great breadth, width, girth, and height, lure one towards us, and simple! down on the ground he goes. But there is no telling if it would be safer or more effective. Splitting them up is our first step, however. "

Another tree fell in the distance, reverberating along the ground and causing Eghlad to whicker nervously and dance in place. The distance between the group and the trolls had to be less than a half mile, and maybe even less at that rate. Something clicked into place in Talfryn's musings, and he quickly pulled out a rope from his haversack, tautly made with double strands of thick material. Eghlad leapt into a gallop as Talfryn dug in his heels, and the man cried over his shoulder, "We cannot tarry like fishwives at market! Tholinnas, help me!"

(Dead muse. Again. Definitely not my best work, but it'll do for now. And, feel free to get mad at Tally; he still feels out of place as it is. )

Cellárë felt out of place as they spoke. She had fallen silent after interjecting with a thought. She remembered how Gifuléon would chide her for speaking her mind so freely, “You are truly human my dear,” he would tell her while peeling an apple on one of their longer rides. She missed his kind grey eyes. She would never hear Gifuléon comforting voice in her ear ever again advising her on ‘what was right.’ By now she was a grown woman; old enough to know right from wrong, but that didn’t make her miss her father any less. In that moment she understood the great loss that had befell the world that day. The weight of it struck her heart. It burned with agonizing pain. She wanted to weep again, but bit her lip and stared wordlessly at the ground unable to move or speak. Through the pain she could hear a bird warbling. She looked up, searching for the feathered creature but saw nothing amongst the thick foliage. It sang again and she wondered how something so beautiful could still live amongst such turmoil and sorrow.

It was then that Cellárë with new resolve looked to Talfryn, her heart still burned as she watched him pull a sturdy rope from his haversack. The warmth was uncomfortable, unlike the pleasant warmth that entered her heart when in the company of friends. It felt as though it were eating away at her insides. She wanted to be rid of the discomfort. Though the sensation had not yet left her Talfryn’s remark made her smile. It was a relief really and she gently nudged Mîdh into a gallop with her heels. Cellárë readjusted her quiver of arrows on her back and readied her bow as she came alongside Talfryn ready to aid them in the pursuit or rather attack.

((ooc: Dead muse as well, but it will do. Aww we love Tally, hehe, sorry Cell is all conflicted and sad, she might feel a bit vengeful for a wee bit, but that will soon pass, she’s an elf.))

Limwen hurried after Talfryn and Cellárë and watched as they looped the rope around a large tree and made it fast. The troll's crashes were getting louder. Limwen saw with sudden clarity: they wouldn't make it in time.

She dashed forward and grabbed the loose end of the rope; there was no time to tie it. She pulled it taut and braced herself against another tree. And not a moment too soon. The troll burst through the trees. The others scattered, moving out of the troll's path and readying their weapons.

As expected, the rope caught the troll about the legs. It stumbled, but it didn't fall, and the force of such a large mass hitting the rope flung Limwen through the air. Her flight was abruptly cut short when she smashed into a tree, and pain shot through her shoulder. It wasn't enough to merit a second thought though; Limwen drew her sword and darted towards the troll.

She thought she heard a cry in protest of such a reckless action, but she didn't listen, already completely focused on taking down the troll that dared to threaten her home and friends. Limwen danced lightly around the troll's lumbering feet, avoiding its hands when it reached form her, and lashing out at its legs with her blade.

Her sword wasn't heavy or strong enough to cause much damage to a troll's thick hide, but it was sharp. If she could land multiple blows in the same area, she could become enough of a nuisance to the troll to give one of the others an opening.
