Within Tolkien's legendarium, did the Eldar tattoo themselves as a cultural practice? (I'm guessing not, but I'm no expert.)

If not, do we have any sense of what they might think of the practice?

Do we know what Tolkien himself would (or did) think of the idea of having something written in Tengwar on one's body as a tattoo?

I ask because it seems like the vast majority of translation requests come from people whose interest in the Tengwar script starts and ends with getting a tattoo. This makes me curious what the Tengwar's creators (both real and within the fictive universe) would think of this phenomenon.
