* First Frost *

(original poem)

My garden died tonight
A victim of the seasons

I saw the roses
hard and brittle in the morning
captured in ephemeral eternity
A crystal thin and tender
that shatters at the lightest breath

Yellow roses, yellow leaves, falling
Slake and rotting lie the bodies
headless stems kissing their grave

I sigh and fetch my rake and barrow.
My garden died tonight

* The First Bitter Cold *

(word for word translation)

My garden died this night
The season of fading it's slayer

I saw the roses
hard and glittering white in [the] morning
caught in a short eternity
Brilliant glass, thin and not strong
that is cleaved by the softest breath

Yellow roses, yellow leaves, falling
Slain and rotten lie the bodies
headless stems kissing their grave

A sad breath, and I bring my garden things
My garden died during [the] night
