Ingredients
1 qt. fresh strawberries1 cup sugar
2 cup all-purpose flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tspsalt
1/3 cup shortening
1 cup milk
Sweetened whipped cream
Instructions
Slice strawberries; sprinkle with 1 cup sugar and let stand 1 hour. Heat oven to 450 degrees. Grease round layer pan, 8x11 1/2 inches. Measure flour, 2 tsp sugar, the baking powder, and salt into a bowl. Stir in milk just until blended. Pat into pan. Bake 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Split shortcake while warm. Fill and top with berries. Serve warm with whipped cream.

OMG! I made it for my Great-grandfather’s 89th birthday and everyone loved loved LOVED it! I didn’t even get a piece that’s how much my family liked it. And almost all of my family hates sweets or cakes. My grandmother said she wanted it for her birthday, and to make two; one for everyone and JUST one for her. lol thank you once again for the recipe.
