Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour1/3 cup sugar
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup chilled butter, cut into pieces
1/2 cup margarine, cut into pieces
1 1/4 cup buttermilk
3/4 cup dried cranberries
1 Tbsp grated orange peel
a little sugar (white or brown) to sprinkle
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425*F. Stir flour, baking powder, soda, and 1/3 cup sugar in large bowl. Using pastry cutter, work in pieces of butter and margarine until mixture is like coarse meal. Add 1 cup buttermilk , cranberries and orange peel. Work in with mixing spoon and then with hands, until it forms a moist dough. Work for 3 or 4 turns on a lightly floured board. Cut into 2 pieces. Roll out each piece into a circle about 3/4-inch thick. Cut each into 8 triangles. Arrange on cookie sheet, brush tops with remaining buttermilk and sprinkle lightly with sugar, if desired.Bake approx. 15 minutes until golden brown. Serve immediately with butter, honey or marmalade.
