Personality: His greatest strength is his determination. Once he puts his mind to something, he does it; this can also be a weakness, however, because he can never admit that he's wrong. It can also come across as just being pig-headed. His greatest weakness is that he has trouble letting go of leadership. He can't easily stay in an inferior position; he respects people who are better than him at something, but he doesn't seem to be able to accept being taught. He had a thorough education in anything needed to be in the City Guard of Osgiliath: scouting, fighting (including with fists), various languages, and the ability to have an overbearing presence, which was sometimes necessary for forcing people to keep the peace. He is most at ease when he is in control of the situation around him. He is least at ease when he feels that someone disapproves of him, because in theory he doesn't care about what others think of him, but he really does. His one wish is to find the best life for his younger sister, Aseult. She's the most important person in the world to him. He's not an optimist or a pessimist. He usually detaches himself from a situation and analyzes it without emotion; if it has to do with someone who he cares about, however, he gets incredibly sentimental about it. Good characteristics: he's proud, sure, and he has trouble accepting not being in authority, but he gives people the benefit of the doubt when he meets them and gives them automatic respect. He only takes away that respect if they lose it. Sometimes, if he's on duty in the City Guard of Osgiliath, he can forget that the people with whom he is dealing are real. He forgets to put it in perspective and see how they may be feeling. Kainen relates to others well; he can talk easily with people he has just met, and respects them (as I said before). However, it takes a long time for him to actually care about someone as a person. His most likable trait is his willingness to take charge and his protectiveness of those for whom he cares, but his least likable trait is his inability to accept defeat. Other: The most important person in the world to him is his younger sister, Aseult. He would do anything for her.

History:
He was born a year or two after the fall of Mordor. Both his parents died of the plague when he was small (about 7) and he and his sister Aseult were placed in the care of his great-uncle, who happened to be the former head of the Osgiliath City Guard before the city was overrun by orcs in the War of the Ring. His great-uncle had him trained to be a City Guardsman. At nineteen, he was accepted into their ranks and worked loyally with them until he was twenty-three. At that time, his nineteen-year-old sister became pregnant by way of his best friend. As soon as she found out, she told Kainen and sought out an herb-woman to help her get rid of the child. She succeeded with the abortion, but the word got out and their great-uncle turned her out of the city in disgrace. Kainen left with her, out of disgust for both his great-uncle and his best friend, who did not stand up for her or even acknowledge the dead child; Aseult also is the person he loves before anything in the world, because he always took care of her after their parents died. They were turned out of the city with barely nothing with which to survive, only a vague plan of heading towards Rohan and finding a hamlet in which to live.
