Peter Jackson today continues his sneak peeks of the Cast of The Hobbit, by releasing a still of Bofur, Bombur, and Bifur. To see the still, and a brief character bio, click here!.
I don’t know why, but Bombur looks like Obelix from Asterix – it’s amusing alright, but I don’t know if it’s good or bad. ๐

Winged hat on one, a bad hair dye on another, and a braided from his beard necklace for the third…

So far, major disappointment in the dwarf end of things ….. PJ created the perfect dwarf-look in Gimli and he’s not even close to with these guys. Maybe he should watch the trilogy and refresh his memory and …. why does Bofur have wings?????

What’s hanging around his neck? Is it a…braid? …….yeah. I don’t know about these dwarves. Not at all what I imagined when I’m reading. But we’ll see.

I was thrilled by the pictures of Gandalf and Bilbo, but now I am beginning to get a very bad feeling about the dwarves. This overall look of them, a strange mixture or horror, barbarian, and grotesque, can be seen on almost every mediocre sci-fi or fantasy paperback novel in bookshops… I was hoping for a more LotR-esque look, even at the cost of beard colours and cloaks being the only thing to distinguish them by.
I am sorry but the non-beards and orc-like weapons for Tolkien dwarves are very ridiculous to me.

Guys…they can’t have every dwarf look like Gimli. They’re making them all distinctive so that the audience can tell them apart.

The horrible hair continues. I have been so incredibly disappointed in the dwarves so far. They should get someone else to do their hair and costuming and weaponry and… just redo the dwarves. They do not look Tolkien-style at all. ๐

I’ll just have to agree with the majority here. I’ll repeat what I said on Oin&Gloin photo. This is more like WoW style – not Lotr style. I wonder why PJ won’t use the Lotr style for the Hobbit, too? The films’re sequels after all.

I’m sorry, but Bombur is screaming “comic relief” here. I’d been hoping to avoid a repeat of Gimli’s loss of dignity. (And what is that beard-necklace thing all about?)
The other two don’t look too bad, though. I particularly like Bifur.

Come on guys, Peter probably didn’t want the dwarves looking the same as the ones in the Lord Of The Rings. I personally don’t see anything wrong with them, and i HAVE read the book. We also have to remember that this was a different time before Lord Of The Rings, so the dress could have been different before they were fighting the war of the ring. we dont need 100 dwarves looking the same as Gimli! Keep on going Peter! ๐
