The Dimholt was a dark wood of fir trees underneath the Dwimorberg or 'Haunted Mountain'.

To reach the Paths of the Dead one would have to pass from Dunharrow, through two rows of standing stones, and along a roadway that led into the east.

At the end of this road, one would reach the Dimholt and in the midst of that wood, would come across another lone standing stone, behind which stood the door to the Paths of the Dead.

Aragorn, the Grey Company, Gimli, and Legolas took this way during the War of the Ring in order to come in time to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.
