A dwarf of Durin’s Folk, distantly related to Thorin Oakenshield His parentage and dates of birth and death are not recorded.

In The Hobbit, Dori was one of the dwarves who accompanied Thorin II on the Quest of Erebor in TA 2941. Dori wore a purple hood, and he (along with his brother Nori) was able to play the flute. He was kindly and brave, and at one point helped Bilbo into a tree during a warg attack, at some risk to himself.

He was physically the strongest of the dwarves, but could be quite nervous. He was unnerved by Smaug saying that he felt the dragon’s eyes were boring into the back of his head.

Dori survived the Battle of Five Armies, and later settled in the Lonely Mountain. He was still living there at the time of the War of the Ring.
