Post Why did you choose sindarin?
on: April 25, 2015 04:40
Hello all,
I am very new to this wonderful land and a partner and I are really trying to figure out whether to go in a quenya direction or a sindarin direction. I wanted to ask the group a couple questions about their experiences. I read that most use quenya, is this the case? And why did you choose to speak the language you choose?

I chose Sindarin because it's the later language of the Third Age, the one that would have carried on as the Elves' everyday spoken language. Quenya simply never appealed to me.

Thank you for that Galadivren, I too am leaning toward Sindarin for that same reason. The only thing is I guess I'm concerned about the amount of usage. A little concerned that the usage is extremely imbalanced toward one side or the other. I enjoy both languages so I'm trying to find out as much as I can before committing to learning. Was using Grelvish for a while before I realized it was not a Tolkien language. So this time Im going to do more investigating...

What I know about this matter is, Quenya is more difficult than Sindarin and so many don't try it out. I chose Sindarin for my part because I liked the sound of it and playing a LARP-Elf origination from the third age of middle-earth it just made more sense to me to learn sindarin. But I do not exclude to learn quenya once my Sindarin in good enough.

I choose sindarin because it has been my favourite elvish language since day 1 & I have ever since try to get the pronaunciation right, and also because it's so Beautiful & soft and it appeals to me personally!
