Post Proper pronunciation
on: May 13, 2016 01:48
This is a very newbie thing to ask, but I'm not able to wrap my head around how to pronounce the short a in the quenya language. Anyone have a better way to state it other than being between father and cat?

I would suggest trying to listen to some of the many good examples on youtube.

Lucy Deetz seems quite dedicated to the pronounciation aspect of quenya.

Could it possibly be almost like a shortened English "hard A"

So I think I found it and you could please correct me here if I'm wrong. Could it be thought of as long a being like a in father, while the short a is ALMOST like the sound of a shout? That kind of open AH?

It is just like the Spanish a in e.g. casa.

There is of course also the master himself reciting Namárië.

Been awhile since I paid this one a visit myself but, being the source, it does provide a good insight into pronounciation.
