Aiya LadyMeg...on another forum I found a list that is somewhat different than your's. They said that the first day of the Eldarin week is Saturday (Elenya). From there it was listed:

2. Sunday - Anarya
3. Monday - Isilya
4. Tuesday - Alduya
5. Wednesday - Menelya
6. Thursday - Valanya
7. Friday - Earenya

Is there any way that we can check this out and see what is correct?

FWIW...This list is incorrect!

Perhaps the confusion is due to the different "weeks" - the "original" Eldarin week had only six days, but the Númenoreans added a seventh day, Eärenya after the heaven´s day. So it would not be the last day of the week! Also, the fourth day in this 7-day week was renamed "Aldëa", to refer only to the one white tree of Númenor instead of the Valinorean two trees.
It seems that Saturday was indeed considered to be the first day of the week, but Tolkien himself "translated" Starday as "Monday", since it was the beginning of the "work week" and the day for rest was "Highday" (Valanya)
This information comes from ROTK, Appendix D.
So it seems to me that Tasarwen´s list is the technically most correct one, but LadyMeg´s is more practical. And both lists have "Seaday" in the wrong place

Hantalë Malinornë....and I like the thought of Sunday being Anarya as in "anar" being "sun". Also, Monday being Isilya as in "isil" being "moon". Isn't that the neatest thing?

Aiya ilquen,

I fixed up the week properly and yes I had sea-day around the wrong way for Sunday instead of Saturday, but fixed that error all the other days are correct in number order.

Accept for Wednesday " Elenya"? I am unsure of if it goes there or not will fix the week days up if anyone knows the correct order!!!

Hantale! for all your help much appreciated as I would like to get it right

Tasarwen, yes I also like the thought of the day of the Sun corresponding to our Sunday, and it seems that was what Tolkien intended *but* he also says that the "use" of the days was different from ours, so he chose to "translate" them differently. Please refer to the ROTK appendix.
I think, since most of us have learnt what Quenya we know from Ardalambion, the most practical thing to do would be to use the translation given in the wordlists there.

Aiya meldonyar...I did some snooping in the Appendix (D) of The Lord of the Rings and this is what I found:

Elenya - star day...(this was the first day of the week)
Anarya - sun day
Isilya - moon day
Aldúya - tree day
Menelya - heavens' day
Eärenya - sea day (added by the Númenoreans)
Valanya - Valar day

Also:

The Hobbit week was taken from the Dúnedain, and the names were translations of those given to the days in the old North-kingdom, which in their turn were derived from the Eldar....Every year began on the first day of the week, Saturday, and ended on the last day of the week, Friday.

From this can we say that the first day of the Eldarin week is the same as our Saturday?...and therefore Saturday = Elenya?

What do you all think?

This is alittle confusing. So would this be correct?

Saturday-Elenya - star day...(this was the first day of the week)
Sunday-Anarya - sun day
Monday-Isilya - moon day
Tuesday-Aldúya - tree day
Wednsday-Menelya - heavens' day
Thursday-Eärenya - sea day (added by the Númenoreans)
Friday-Valanya - Valar day

or is this one on the second post correct?
6. Thursday - Valanya
7. Friday - Earenya

Aiya Aniron_Valandil....My initial post was indeed incorrect and after reading the Appendix of The Lord of the Rings, I made the correction. Perhaps someone else can verify what I found out from that Appendix.

Aiya ilquen,

I edited the days of week according to what Gildor Inglorion told me the first day of the week is Sunday " Elenya".

I hope that clears that one all up
