Warthog and butterfly… What an interesting combination
It doesn’t even look like it’s a part of the picture! Like it and the background are from different things.

ooooh man, you should have seen how big it was compared to Gandalf. PJ’s Balrog could easily whomp the crap
out of Bakshi’s version.
After I watched this cartoon, I dreamed butterflys were trying to kill me.
PJ’s Balrog would burn his wings off and leave him to lie alone, slowly dying of starvation and burn wounds.
Or maybe just stomp on him.
Looks to me like the results of a moth flying too close to the light-bulb…

Give Bakshi a break. Though I could point out a million mistakes in his movie, I still think it was mildly O.K
(it was the first Lotr thing I ever saw/read.)
And the Balrog wasn’t really one of those mistakes, by the way.

that i ever saw too, and believe me i LOVED the cartoons as a kid, still like them, but just because they are
tolkien, not because they look good. they look like crap. and aragorn has no pants. (*cringes*)

I hated this Balrog, even before I saw PJ’s version. The BAlrog has no flame except for his sword, His mane is
covering his whole head like a lion ( I always pictured it like the heyena’s mane, down the back of the neck)
The only thing about this thing that’s right is that it has wings (dorky though they are), and the wings of a
Balrog are in dispute. And this pic. makes this thing look worse then the tape! (sorry for the long review)
