The Battle under the Trees occurs in Mirkwood; Thranduil’s folk repel the armies of Dol Guldur. The Second Assault on Lothlórien. occurs.

Frodo and Sam look out across Mordor to Mount Doom.

King Brand and Dáin Ironfoot are slain in battle.

Many Men and Dwarves take refuge in Erebor and they are there besieged.

Shagrat takes Frodo’s Elven-cloak, Mithril Shirt, and Sting to the tower of Barad-dûr.

Frodo and Sam come within sight of the Isenmouthe.

They are overtaken by Orcs on the road between Durthang and Udûn.

Frodo and Sam escape the Orcs and begin their final journey to the Barad-dûr.
