Ingredients
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup raisins or currants
Buttermilk
Instructions
In a large bowl, sift together flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. Cut in shortening. Add fruit.Make a well and add enough buttermilk to form a stiff dough. Roll out 1/4- to 1/2- inch thick on a floured board.
Fry on a lightly greased griddle 7-10 minutes. Turn. Fry an additional 7-10 minutes.
Serve with homemade jam.

I just made mine, added some nuts, and because I didn’t have any buttermilk, I used soymilk. Then I put each in a frying pan with a little oil to brown the edge, then baked about 8 minutes, flipped them, and baked another 8. They look and smell delicious, but I’m planning a Hobbit meal for my family and have yet to eat any 🙂
