Ingredients
1 1/2 cups unbleached white flour, plus extra1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
a pinch of nutmeg
a dash of salt
1/4 cup chilled shortening

Oh, this lembas recipe is very good. You people must try it!
Strider, I don’t think anyone will. *sniff* Ah well, I didn’t expect they would, but you’re sweet coming in here. I told you not to. But…..no one listens to me.
Ah, great recipe. It’s actually pretty tasty like. Shout otuts to my sister for referring me to this page.
Looks good! You might want to add honey though. I made a different recipe with honey, and it tasted excellent. But I’m going to try this one as well. 😀
the recipe was great i found it to be espeially good with strawberry syrup ( not like nesquick or any thing like realy syrup) yep quite tasty.
I haven’t tried it yet but I found this searching for an easy recipe for lembas because my mom said I could make some today. This looks good, I’m going to try it. 🙂
good god this is some good s**t. i recomend that u go 50/50 with the shortning and butter (thats a 1/6 cup butter 1/6 cup shortning) and a 50/50 suger buter mix on the top 4 a golden galze.
Haven’t tried this yet but it sounds wonderful.
I found this to be very good. 🙂 Not to sweet not to bland. Especially tasty if you add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla to the recipe.
it looks really good but i was just wondering, what is SHORTENING?!?!?
we live by England and don’t kno what it is,
wow this was so good… i ate it all in two days!! i highly recommend it to anyone who’s thinking of making it
p.s- irel & idril, shortening is just like crisco or something like that in case you haven’t found it yet
OHH!!! OH!!! CAN’T WAIT TO TRY IT!!!! Tell you if I liked it!
very good although I found the dough can be a little dry
I am a hige fan of everyone and everything, but I have always wanted to try Lembas for real. I added cinnamon, and that made an excellent touch, and it complimented the sugar. It really does fill you up, with only one bite! Thank you for the recipe, Coruptted1!!!

I tried the bread that “Fills you up in one bite,” and it did! Aswell as that, I added some of my own little “adjustments”. Well, first of all, the nutmeg made it taste a little sour, so did the butttermilk, so I took thos out, and put water in their stead. I also found that shortening is not a MUST HAVE, as long as you butter it after. Whe completed, to adda touch of sweetness, sprinkle sugar, CINNAMON, and POWDERED SUGAR. I shared it with my friends at school; and they loved it! Thnx Corrupted1!!!
ya well u take that stuf out then, if you find it sour add more suger. if u find it dry add more B-milk, to plane add vanilla, or cinnamon. dont add honey, it gets to dam stiky and u need to add a unknown amout of flour.
Love the Lembas recipe! Great work! I can’t get enough of it! lol One is suppose to filll you, and it does, but I just keep eating it! Great effort! Bring us more recipes!
“mm, lembas 1 bite can fill a grown man”
well what abuot woman?!
First recipe I tried off this site. I like it, even though it’s kind of bland and flour-y. It is filling though!
When I first made this I was unsure about it. I wasn’t sure if it would be that good or not but it really was! You should really try it! The elves say a small bite can fill the stomache of a grown man.. but as I am more like Pippin than Legolas, I ate about four.. still wasn’t full. 🙂 Very good recipe!
Oh, yes, it’s very good!
My one failing was to put in a 1/4th cup of sugar instead of a third. Not that good an idea. Also, cinnimonn, instead of nutmeg.
Other than that it is splendid!
i have not tried it, but i am gonna go now hey lotr fans, email me at [email protected]
this stuff is very good… i put too much cinnamon (no nutmeg) and used milk.very good though
This looks really good. I think I’ll give it a shot today ^-^
For those of you looking for a good recipe this is it, although it didnt fill me ill i ate more than my fair share…. but hey im half dragon what do you expect?

I love this recipe! good job!
Mellon-Nin,
Corrupted-1 how could anyone not like your Lembas? I changed the flour to rice flour and the buttermilk to Almond milk because I’m gluten free and dairy free It came out wonderfully! my nephew’s friend john said “no wonder the elves lived off of this stuff it’s great!” p.s. when you make it with regular flour is it soft like bread or harder like a cookie like the way it came out with mine?
I made this recipe this morning, exactly as writen, and it came out AMAZING. Ok, I put the lembas in the oven in two batches and, for the second batch, I turned the temperature down to 400 and baked it for 11 mins because I was afraid of burning my house down, and it still turned out gredt! The nutmeg really is the secret ingredient for these lembas.
Alassë Talangand: my lembas turned out more like a cookie than soft bread.
Sounds Delicious!
Can’t wait to try it.
I made this recipe for a project in German class 5 or 6 years ago and it went over really well, everyone enjoyed the Lembas! I just found the recipe again and am going to make some more.
I am actually wondering if plain milk can be substituted for the buttermilk? My friend made the recipe and said it was good, but I have no buttermilk. :'(
I used a longer, wider pan than 9×10. It was waaaay too thick even when I used half of my longer pan (I think it’s 18×20 something) and didn’t . But, I also substituted cinnamon for the nutmeg because we didn’t have any nutmeg. I am baking a second thinner/longer batch now and I think it will taste wonderful once I put some butter on it! 😀
Just a note- I assume the (V) in the title means it’s vegan. But it kinda isn’t, because it has buttermilk in it.
(V) can also be vegetarian
Sounds absolutely splendid, it will be ever so painful to wait and try the recipe…I am waiting for a friend so we can try this together. Great work!
Does it work with soy milk?
