“I see myself as the guardian of this character,” says Serkis. “I think of Gollum as a Ring junkie. He’s suffering withdrawal because the Ring is not his anymore. He’s a paranoid schizo, a compulsive liar and completely screwed up. What actor wouldn’t want to play this part?”
