of course i’ll disagree with the editorial in many places, but one sticking point was the oscars… it is not LOTR’s fault that it won its awards in “minor” categories, it is the fault of the academy voters who are prejudiced against fantasy type movies. and I bet if the computer tech was available and would have enhanced Copplola’s movies, he’d have used it! so many holes to punch through in that editorial’s arguments, but so little time to post them!

I hated the “Godfather” movies. Couldn’t stand any of ’em. But, that article is just one person’s opinion, and my opinion is just mine, too!

Neither is better, they are so different in terms of genre and content that you really can’t compare them

The person above is right you cannot comapre the two films to each other. Now compare LOTR to Gone with the Wind OR the Star Wars trilogy & thats a different matter. But LOTR SHOULD have won a Oscar for the two prevoius films i suppose Peter Jackson isnt Jewish so that rules him out! : P NO NO before YOU all jump on me I M ONLY MESSING!!!

I must ask, what on earth is wrong with fantasy?? I find it as a wonderful getaway from violent earth to the centers of our imaginations where reality is considered an intruder.
I’m not really disappointed with this article because it was just an opinion. I find the Godfather films as a realistic picture in the state our world as it is right now. That’s why I hate it. >_< To boring to mafia-like, too ergh! What does it teach us? It teaches us how pathetic humans can be. (sorry)
LotR however, it gives us hope, and it teaches us many lessons that will be useful for life.
Besides, computers? Excuse me, but if computer graphics were available back in the day, I’m sure the director would’ve used them too! (sorry) In your face!
The Godfather trilogies, hated it!
LotR? Go for it! Whoo!
And folks don’t worry! This is just an opinion. Don’t let it bother you.

Even though The Lord of the Rings is different compared to the Godfather in terms of genre, its still actually had a story in the trilogy while in the Godfather, the story was mumbled out because of those stupid accents.

Oh, how can you all disagree with this article. There is no doubt that “The Godfather” is a much better film. There is so much more to lern from Godfather. Such fabulous chracters as role models. And even if you do not agree with the article lets still imitate The Godfather and make an offer Academy jurors can not refuse : Oscars for “Return of the King”. (And if they value “The Godfather” so much they should remember what happens when one refuses the offer.)

Fortunately, this is only one of two reviews I’ve seen (out of 30+) that has more negative comments than praise for RotK. Most people agree: it’s one of the finest achievements in cinematic history and deserves Oscars in several categories.
If you are at all discouraged, go to TORn and read their Ringer Reviews. ^_^
