“Mae Govannen meathor”

One of the newer sites added to CoE in recent months is the Weaponry site and its gracious admin. Macilie~Undomiel invited me in for a look around.

When the position was offered Mac felt that her lifelong intrigue with all types of weaponry, the historical roles they play and her love of LoTR was a perfect match and the Weaponry site was born.

The site is divided into four major categories:
1) Blacksmithing – Which has a good interview with Peter Lyon, designated weapons guru for Weta during the making of the Trilogy.
2) Fighting styles – Highlighted this month: Dwarven Armory with some really excellent pictures of Dwarven masks and greaves, which could have been worn by Durin the Deathless himself!
3) Learning Weaponry – Basics of fencing and the types of swords used. Mac’s weapon of choice: saber
4) Weaponry of Middle-Earth – Wonderful, in depth article about the “The Sword that was broken” and the crucial part it played in history of Arda. Did you know that there were a few hundred years that the history of Narsil was unknown?

The newest article under this section is a detailed description of the development of armor and weapons from the First through Third age, from creation of chain mail to the longbows of the Elves.

Mac is always on the lookout for great info, articles, or links to expand her area. If ya’ll run into something interesting contact her with your idea or submit something you found or maybe doing some research on.

Remember, what benefits the one benefits the whole (Plus, you an earn member points too!!)

Just for fun I asked Mac who was her favorite character? Weapon?

Here’s what she told me: Even though Gollum has a special place in her heart, she prefers either Galadriel or Legolas, no drooling here for Leggy, just an admiration for his prowess with a bow! She said her favorite weapon would be a sword and if she could get her hands on one… “I’d be the happiest person alive”

The weaponry of Middle earth is the tangible symbol of the nobility or malevolence of its bearers and as such is an important part of the history of Middle-earth, so go visit the place that showcases these wonderful weapons…and get your greave on!!!

Thank you Macilie~Undomiel for your help and enthusiasm in writing this article.
