LotR footage leaves New Zealand
The New Zealand Herald report that the last of the original film footage of the trilogy has left New Zealand to be stored in the US. Jay Berryman, who organised the move, said, “Out of 2255km of footage, only 17km made the final cut” and the footage not used, “contained thousands of out-takes and behind-the-scenes shots”.

Wouln’t you just love to see those out-takes and behind-the-scenes shots. Wonder how long it would take to watch over 2000km of film?
I’d give anything to all of that film! All the outakes….deleted scenes…..*sigh*
This makes me feel kinda sad…
I hope they do something with that footage, like put together some of the funnier outtakes and deleted scenes and let us watch it all.
for any of the people who live in the US, that’s 10.6 miles of used footage and 1401.2 of unused, outakes, and behind the scenes. dang that’s a lot…
But why is it leaving NZ? Why take all the trouble to move it to the US? Is it safer there or something?
aww i hope they add all the out-takes and behind the scene shots
I want to see the out-takes and behind the scenes stuff. That’d be so cool! I hope they release it.
I’d love to see that, but I live in Australia so they just moved it so far away from me 🙁
Putting the unused film into the archievs really denotes that it is all over, how sad. I have had some sad moments when ROTK was over knowing there would be no more to look forward to, but the books will always be there and so will the DVDs. I would give anything to be able to see that unused film. What a treat that would be, especially the behind the scenes!
