Time Warner no longer in the running to buy MGM
Bloomberg.com reports that having failed to reach an agreement on the price of the film studio, Time Warner has withdrawn their bid for MGM.
It had been hoped that a deal between Time Warner, who owns New Line Cinema, and MGM, who owns the film rights to The Hobbit, would pave the way for Peter Jackson to make a movie version of The Hobbit.

Oh no!!! It won’t be the same if someone else makes the film. Or if the film isn’t made at all!!!!! 0.0
no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! whats gonna happen now? is it going to be made by someone else or not at all!!?!?!?!??!
This is Heart braking news. It will be very sad if “The Hobbit” isn’t made into a move, or they do make it and Peter Jackson doesn’t the Director. This is sad…..Very sad 🙁 🙁 :(.!!!!!
Waaah! Well, on the bright side… er, the bright side’s looking pretty dim…
Does this mean no Hobbit?! I’ll die if one’s not made!
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! How can they do that?! This is terrible.
The fricken idiots!!!(from napoleon dynamite) GOSH!!! Ok, so they really should make the Hobbit, but I honestly think it would be better if they made it before the LOTR trilogy, cuz it comes before but STILL!!!
NOOOOO!!!!! They can’t do that to us!!!
I emailed my dad (American Movie critic, who’s in touch with New Line) aabout this and I got this reply from him 5 minutes ago:
“yesterday when I spoke to the new Line rep that Sony made a much
larger counter offer of 5 Billion which MGM has taken. This means that
Peter Jackson can make the Hobbit but it would not be able to distribute
it so no Hobbit any time soon.”
So, we apparently shall see. I hope we get the Hobbit 🙁
what will be even worse then no Hobbit at all, is if they totally botch the film by using different actors/actresses and then change the setting we’ve all come to love in LotR. I’ll be soooo mad if they make it like a fairy land
What’s that sounds?? … It sounds like the collective breaking of the hearts of all LotR fans out there.
🙁 I think that as long as Peter directs the film and Weta can handle the production, things will be okay. Chin up everyeone!
Nooooooo!!!!!!!! This is awful! I hope you’re right HobbitHole_Dweller!
Don’t give up everyone!! If we keep at it, who knows?? Something may happen! I’m very upset as well, but maybe, just maybe things will get better in the future. As hobbithole_dweller says, chins up!
Oh, crap.
WTF! biggest mistake they’ll make…even if there was a hobbit…without peter jackson its just not worth watching
There is always the possibility that Sony will be willing to work with New Line on it. After all, New Line has the production rights. It’s the North American Distribution Rights that are owned by MGM (now Sony). It made sense for MGM not to sell them before their takeover, as they provided a large incentive for Time Warner (New Line’s owner) to bid high. Now that the deal’s done, it would be wise for Sony to get into talks with New Line and make a deal that’s beneficial to all…INCLUDING LOTR fans!
One can always hope, anyway…
AH, OH MY GOD!!!!! NOOO HOW COULD THEY DO THIS?! I’m sure everyone was waiting for P.J. to have this movie come out!
