Karen Wynn Fonstad dies at 59
Author and map-maker Karen Wynn Fonstad died on the 11th March 2005.
While best known to us as the author and map-maker for “The Atlas of Middle-earth”, Karen was also a freelance map-maker and a part-time lecturer at the University of Wisconsin. You can see many of her maps in our Gallery’s Map section.

Oh dear, that’s so sad! I have two of her map books, and they’re so wonderful.
How very sad! She was talented and gave those of us map-challenged readers invaluable resources… She will be missed.

She was such a talented lady. I’m lucky enough to have one of her books and it is one of my favorite Lord of the Rings reference books. I know that all of us “Ringers” will miss her dearly!

She was young. This is very sad. At least we have something great to remember her by!
