Lord of the Rings – the musical
The world premiere of The Lord of the Rings musical will take place in Toronto in March 2006. The music is being written by AR Rahman and Varttina. According to director Matthew Warchus, “The production will be a hybrid of text, physical theatre, music and spectacle never previously seen on this scale”. You can read further details at bbc.co.uk.

why
o my gosh! i just heard about this earlier tonight! ( i live right by toronto, so it was all over the news). First, i think it’s hilarious that they’re doing a musical – i mean it’s been such a longstanding joke, and now they’re really going to do it. Also i think it should be kinda fun. ;). it sounds like it’s going to be a lot of work though.
And hey, who knows? maybe some of the people involved in the movie will have an excuse to come to TO. now… *wishful thinking*
Hope it’s a blast! – A musical! honestly, how awesome is that? 😀 although there won’t be singing, dancing hobbits…
i love canada.
*snorts* This could either be really good….or really bad. Singing hobbits might not be too bad, but singing orcs…hmm. Costumes should be cool though!
“Look Mr Frodo, some luck at last!”
Woo-hoo! Things are FINALLY starting to happen in Toronto (I’m still very upset that the ROTK exhibit hasn’t made its way here yet). I feel a little bad for the folks in the UK but it’s not like the musical won’t make its way back there eventually right? 🙂
Lol, I know they said there would be no singing and dancing hobbits but when I think of “LOTR Musical” that’s the only image in my head! Haha…
Saw this in the paper this morning, pretty interesting!!!!
Hey, isn’t there already made a version, which they’re making right now? I just saw a programme on Swedish Television where they said that Martin Stenmark (a swedish musical artist and singer) is playing Aragorn right now in the musical version, or is soon going to…?
Is there being made 2 different musicals, or what?
Yay!! Two plays I want to see!! The Lord of the Rings and Spamalot. I don’t know if I’d have the money to go to Tronto though…I’m traveling to France. But maybe the play will travel to Paris and I can see Tolkine en francais!!!
YaY! finally something happening in Canada, let alone somewhere i can be able to go to. (as in distance wise)
Finally! SOmething in Canada! Although I kind of think a musical will be very strange…but that wont stop me from seeing it! I’m in the same boat as HeartofChivalry… i cant wait to see Spamalot either. And now I have LOTR to look forward to also!
