Honestly? Here’s a bridge. Get over it.
My thoughts exactly.
It was for the best anyways. Baby. You have like 200 other movie titles.
i admit he does need to get over it, but i dont really blame him. Wouldnt you be angry if ur character got cut from a film? But, whats done is done and life must go on.
Perhaps he’s telling the truth and it’s really not a question of having HIS scenes cut. He is a loyal Tolkien fan and I can understand why he would be upset at having an important part of the book left out like that. I think he’s right, it does take away from the story.
I understand him very well. If you are such a great Tolkien fan (Christopher Lee re-reads LOTR every year :-)!!!) and if you put your heart in playing Saruman so good, of course you are very upset when you character is cut from the movie!!! I didn’t like the way they changed the story of Saruman, but I think it would have been fair to let him in the theatrical version on ROTK.
I thought the Saruman scene was great, and shouldn’t have been cut out of the movie. But, seriously, I’m done feeling sorry for him. Get over it!
He should be, he deserved to be in it.
I agree with both sides actually, yes he should be upset that all of saruman was cut as it does take away from a big part of the story but it is time to get over it considering it will be coming up on two years ago. Nothing can be done, he was int he extended part so he should be happy. I think it should have been left in to begin with though, and the scourging of the shire should have been in there too 🙂
I think he has a right to still be upset. He’s a big Tolkienite after all! I’m sure he feels very strongly for keeping as close to the books as possible. Also, Saruman was a large part of the novels and he was not given justice for an ending. It was very lacking.
I think maybe some people might be mistaking a few aspects. There is a large difference between complaining about how he was left out of RotK to anyone who will listen, and a reporter probing you about it. If I were (really) bothered by something, chances are I’d dwell on it for a while, then move on. However, if someone were to question me about this particular thing, it might get the ball rolling all over again.
I do feel that he has a right to be upset (he pulled off Saruman perfectly and he gets cut? I was outraged!) and since he does enjoy LotR a lot, I can understand those feelings, but I think he does need to push through and move on.
To have it come up again in print makes it look like he’s harping on it. It looks unprofessional.
I think he still has every right to be upset – I doubt he specifically went looking for that story anyway (when they publish stories like that, you know they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel). He’s probably now getting lots of questions about Saruman being cut, and I expect it’s annoying him. Frankly, he shouldn’t have been cut in the first place. His story made sense (spiked wheel bad, but hey…) and was needed. They wasted screen time putting in extra rubbish about Arwen in (life tied to the Ring = stupid) – if they’d taken most of that out, they could easily have fitted (most of) his stuff in. At the end of the day, he’s not upset about himself – he’s upset about the story.
// end rant. Sorry, had to get that out of my system =)
I do feel bad for him, I am am still upset that the Voice of Saruman wasn’t included in the theatrical edition. However, I think they did a horrendously poor job of the scene in the EE–not the acting, but the scriptwriting and the directing were really bad. It’s just another case of PJ & Co. not respecting what they had given to them in the books and inventing their own garbage.
