Mare purchased for appearance in The Hobbit
The elves are supposed to be really tall and thin so the horses to be used by them have to be quite stocky to accentuate that.

Haven’t read the article yet. I wanted to ask if anyone knows who the animal rights people are on this production and who makes sure that the animals are protected?
Pretty horse. 🙂 Not sure if I like it for the elves or not. On one hand, I can understand the filmmaker’s reasoning, but on the other hand, Clydesdales are draft horses and not as fast. I always imagined the Sindar and Silvan elves to ride fast and light horses, like Arabians or Hanoverians…
