Di’shan (otterling)
He was the apple of his father’s eye and his mother doted upon him utterly, but there was simply something dark and vile within Di’shan that manifested itself at an early age. Even as his mother was baking him pies and lavishing him in affection, Di’shan was hunting on their lands for small animals he could harm. The darkness within him enjoyed their writhing bodies and twisted little cries as the lizards, snakes, and small mammals died in his grasp. Di’shan enjoyed the power, the feeling of absolute control he gained from inflicting pain on others and quickly became a bully of the worst sort as he grew into adolescence. His parents, as many loving parents are want to do, ignored the darkness festering in him and denied the accusations pointed his way. It was a mistake they would soon pay for. When Di’shan reached the age of sixteen, he killed his first person, a lovely young girl who followed him about like a lost puppy. Her affections soon turned to horror on the sad night when she found herself pushed beneath the waters of a local fountain, her cries silenced as water rushed in to fill her lungs. That night, Di’shan tasted human blood but the girl managed some small note of satisfaction before her demise, for in her final moments, she raked her fingernails down his arms in her struggle and Di’shan bears the scars to this day. Arrogant as he is, Di’shan was dismayed by this permanent reminder of his deeds and has made every effort to ensure that his perfect body is never marred by his victims again. He inflicts violence upon others but strives for the perfection of never having it touch him back.
The murder was the last straw for his hometown and Di’shan was forced to leave as threats against him began to echo through the neighborhoods. The terrible reality of their son’s deeds began to sink in though his mother would refuse to believe it until her dying day. Di’shan rode from town with what little he possessed and sought fortune and victims in new lands. A trail of death and torment lay in his wake and soon enough, he began to amass wealth as he robbed the unfortunate souls he dispatched. The money gave him no peace though and always he moved on to find another town, and in it, more innocents. It was in one such town that he came across a cloaked elf who offered him a position he could not refuse. Ondet could see the darkness beneath Di’shan’s façade and laid out for him a plan that would have the fairest of all the races at his fingertips. Elves. Di’shan signed up as fast as he could and rode out the next day with his new master. As ever, loyal to none, Di’shan would not fight for his master’s cause, but would gleefully join in the fray as the elf’s “information gatherer”.
