Darkness crept over the almost corrupted soul of Frodo as he lay unconcious in the dungeons of Barad-Dur feverishly. Feeling almost lost amongst the cold floor with no protection for his hands were bound and he was stripped of his clothes to the waist. The shrill sound of the orcs and uruks fighting amongst themselves and the pain from a long, stinging whip ripping the flesh on his sides and stomach leaving burning blood marks that weakend his remaining courage, strength, and hope. “Hope. What hope am I holding on to?” thought Frodo to himself “What strenghth do I have inside?” Frodo continued to despair and suffer until he could stand it no longer. He could not keep himself concious and at that moment he fainted into a long sleep. He was starting to fade when a sudden urge to continue grasped his soul. He could hear voices, voices of orcs being slain, but not from another orc. There was a familiar voice though he could not recall whose it was, but he sensed it was not that of an enemy. Frodo started to drift off again, but before he reached unconciousness a bright hand came through the shadow in which he was falling and pulled him out of the darkness. He was out of the shadow, but not alone for a familiar face was upon him and slowly, faintly Frodo let escape three words from his mouth “Sam… I’m fading”

Laura was sitting in Bag End worrying for months where her husband was. She thought it was an awfully long time for Frodo to call a short time. Many months ago after Frodo had married Laura she remembered his promise “I’ll be back soon I promise. I’m just going to Rivendell to put the Ring in better hands.” but now she wondered exactly how far Rivendell was from the Shire. Now she remembered that she needed some rest for she was expecting a baby sometime. This seemed altogether happy and sad all at once. She was anxious for the baby’s coming yet she was depressed for she had not told Frodo that she was expecting a baby and now it was too late. She began to wonder whether he would ever come back, but whenever she thought that she remembered what Frodo said the day they were married “My family is my life and I promise I will do whatever it takes to keep you safe.” Slowly and in deep thought that one memory was played in her head until she drifted off to sleep.
