Bob was one of Barliman Butterbur’s two hobbit servants, along with Nob. He seemed to be in charge of, or associated with, the horses stabled at the Prancing Pony, but this was not explicitly stated.

After the War of the Ring, he continued to work at the Prancing Pony but went home at nightfall.
