Gilbarad was the father of Ivorwen, wife of Dírhael. Dírhael and Ivorwen were the parents of Gilraen, mother of Aragorn.

Gilbarad is mentioned only in an early version of the Tale of Arwen and Aragorn. Nevertheless, he was never replaced, but did not make into the published version of the Tale because of space concerns.
