Meeting-place of the Eagles.

After killing the Great Goblin and escaping from the Misty Mountains, Bilbo, Gandalf and the dwarves stumbled upon the meeting-place of the Wargs. Finding themselves encircled by the wolves, they climbed up the trees and were rescued by Eagles of the Misty Mountains who had come to find out what had happened.

These Eagles brought the Company to the Great Shelf, a wide shelf of rock on the mountainside, where they discussed where they would be brought to next. They stayed the night on the Great Shelf and were brought to the Carrock the next morning.

These Eagles were of the ancient race of the northern mountains, and were considered the greatest of all birds.
